Principal Engineer Systems

Description

The company builds air and space systems. This role is a Principal Systems Engineer position on the Aeronautics Systems team, based in Palmdale, CA, Rancho Bernardo, CA, or El Segundo, CA, to develop and deliver systems engineering products.

Relocation assistance may be available. A Secret clearance is required to start. Travel is 10% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Develop requirements, allocate them, and plan verification and validation while leading interface definition work.
• Write detailed specifications, interface control documents, and engineering reports.
• Keep systems engineering artifacts under proper configuration management.
• Work with program, functional, and subsystem leads on interfaces and communication.
• Work with key stakeholders to confirm that systems engineering artifacts are properly verified and validated.
• Gather input from a range of stakeholders and team members, then explain findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Lead and coordinate across integrated product teams and with external customers, using strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) and 5 years of related engineering experience, or a Master's degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related engineering experience, or a PhD in a STEM discipline and 1 year of related engineering experience.
• Active USG Secret clearance, with a background investigation within the past 5 years or enrollment in Continuous Evaluation.
• Ability to obtain and maintain initial Special Access Program (SAP) access through a Program Access Request before starting, or within a reasonable time set by the company to meet business needs.
• Ability to obtain and maintain later SAP/PAR access after starting, as needed to fully support the statement of work.
• Experience with Python or another scripting language.
• Preferred: current applicable Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
• Preferred: active USG Top Secret or higher clearance, with a background investigation within the past 5 years or enrollment in Continuous Evaluation.
• Preferred: experience in one or more systems engineering areas, such as technical planning, system design development, verification and validation, cost and risk management, requirements management, or technical review support.
• Preferred: familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and system architecture integration.
• Preferred: familiarity with systems engineering tools such as DOORS and Cameo.
• Preferred: experience with software development.
• Preferred: experience with HW/SW integration testing.
• Preferred: experience with Agile execution.

Conditions

Base salary range is $114,000.00 to $171,000.00. The company sets offers based on the scope of the role, your experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.

Travel is 10% of the time.
