Description

The company is hiring a Principal Engineer with bridge and/or structural design experience for its Enterprise Capabilities team in Madrid, Europe.

The Bridges and Structures group has delivered structural bridge designs in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Latin America and the Middle East, working on transport infrastructure projects in a diverse, multicultural setting.

The role covers every stage of a project, from concept and feasibility studies through preliminary and detailed design, across a wide range of bridge and structural work for public and private clients, including large Design and Build projects.

The company is a publicly traded global infrastructure consultancy with professional services revenue of $14.4 billion in fiscal 2023, offering services from advisory and planning through design, engineering, program management and construction.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the bridge (rail or road) or structures engineering on mid-size projects supported by Enterprise Capabilities.
  • Make daily technical decisions for a team that draws on staff from several Enterprise Capabilities offices, including Spain, Poland and India.
  • Give technical input to studies and design work, and run medium-complexity value engineering reviews to propose alternative designs, materials and construction methods.
  • Split work into packages to be delivered by Enterprise Capabilities, write project execution plans, and agree the delivery strategy with internal clients, including the make-up of design teams.
  • Review work produced by others for quality, then approve it and sign it off.
  • Answer for the team's results and for staying within the agreed budget on a given work package.
  • Communicate clearly with internal clients and team members so expectations and requirements are understood.
  • Train, mentor and assess less experienced staff in the Europe GDC or another GDC.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of proven experience on bridge and/or structural design, working with international and multicultural teams.
  • A master's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognised university.
  • Professional fluency in English, spoken and written, is essential.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
  • Experience with international codes and standards, such as AASHTO, AREMA, Aus-Codes and BS.
  • Skill with engineering calculation software for bridges and structures. Midas Civil is preferable, though CSi Bridge is also well regarded.
  • A proven commitment to quality control policy and quality management systems.
  • Experience managing teams.
  • Experience in North America or Australia will be considered favourably.

Conditions

Based in Madrid, Spain, within the Enterprise Capabilities Europe team.

Hybrid working is offered, and you can work from a company office, remotely or on a client site.

The company provides a safe, respectful workplace that welcomes equal opportunities, and applicant information is handled confidentially under EEO guidelines.

Benefits

  • Work on structural designs for internationally recognised transport and infrastructure projects.
  • Collaborate with multicultural, multidisciplinary teams and share global best practice.
  • Develop professionally in a technically strong environment, with training and career progression.
  • A competitive pay and benefits package, with flexible working arrangements and the option to work remotely.
  • Use advanced tools such as BIM, automation and parametric design.
  • An inclusive, diverse workplace committed to equal opportunity.
