Principal Engineer - Vice President

Description

This is a Vice President level Principal Engineer role in the Applications Development group within Technology, a full-time position based in Jersey City, New Jersey, United States.

You will be a hands-on engineer designing, building, and rolling out application systems. Your work centres on data migrations and hybrid cloud setups that span on-premise infrastructure, AWS, and GCP, using Java and Python and testing newer AI tools.

Responsibilities

• Contribute directly to the full lifecycle of complex application and data systems, from design through deployment, using your Java and Python skills.
• Plan and build data migrations that move information reliably and efficiently between legacy on-premise systems and public clouds such as AWS and GCP.
• Create and tune fast data pipelines and integrations that run across on-premise, AWS, and GCP.
• Push engineering quality forward by applying cloud-native methods that make systems scalable, reliable, and secure.
• Serve as the go-to expert on core technologies, guiding and coaching development teams.
• Work with cross-functional groups to set technical requirements, architecture patterns, and new solutions.
• Assess emerging AI tools and bring the useful ones into application environments, supporting the company's AI direction.
• Make sure solutions follow architecture blueprints, industry standards, and regulatory rules, and manage technical risk early.
• Core skills: Java, Python, RESTful APIs, Kafka, Kubernetes, AWS (S3 and other cloud infrastructure services), GCP (BigQuery and other cloud infrastructure services).

Requirements

• At least 8+ years of hands-on software development, with a strong focus on backend systems, data engineering, or cloud-native applications.
• Expert-level skill in Java and Python.
• A proven record of designing and delivering large-scale data migrations and robust data pipelines across hybrid cloud (on-premise, AWS, GCP).
• Solid working knowledge of AWS and GCP cloud infrastructure and services.
• Hands-on experience with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with foundation AI models (Gemini, OpenAI, Claude, Llama) and prompt engineering concepts.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a history of delivering new technical solutions.
• Leadership ability to mentor and guide engineering teams.
• Clear communication, including explaining complex technical ideas to varied audiences.
• Bachelor's degree or university degree, or equivalent experience.
• Desirable skills: Foundation models (Gemini, OpenAI, Claude, Llama, local models); generation tools (PostgreSQL, vector databases, Python, FastAPI, async programming); deployment (Docker, production APIs, monitoring); applied methodology (prompt engineering).

Conditions

Full-time role, based in Jersey City, New Jersey, United States.

Primary full-time salary range: $142,320.00 - $213,480.00.
