Principal Embedded Software Engineer

Description

The company builds mission systems for national defense, and this role sits in its Software Technologies group within the company Mission Systems (NGMS) in Baltimore, MD.

You will write software for mission systems across all stages of the development lifecycle, mainly in C/C++.

The software and digital technologies group is moving its delivery of defense products toward model-based engineering, DevSecOps and Agile methods.

This position depends on an expected contract award and funding.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, develop and modify existing software, using current development techniques.
• Find risks, propose mitigations, track defects, develop fixes and report status.
• Write and run unit tests, build verification test plans, and track and report test progress.
• Work with multidisciplinary engineering teams to test and verify software on simulators and production hardware in the System Integration Laboratories.
• Evaluate new technologies before they are adopted.
• Take part in technical peer, design, architecture and system reviews with systems engineering to confirm software and system requirements are met end to end.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering or a related STEM field, plus 5 years of related experience.
• US citizenship.
• Ability to obtain a Secret clearance, which is required to start and must be kept for continued employment.
• 4 years of C/C++ experience.
• 4 years of real-time embedded software experience.
• 4 years across the full software lifecycle: specification, design, implementation, integration, debugging and maintenance.
• Optional: experience in algorithm development and optimization.
• Optional: experience with VxWorks and/or Linux.
• Optional: experience with Visual Studio.
• Optional: experience with Matlab.
• Optional: experience with Coverity, SonarQube and/or KlocWork.
• Optional: experience with Open Architecture solutions.
• Optional: experience with the Atlassian tool set, Kubernetes, model-based engineering and DevSecOps practices.
• Optional: experience in electronic warfare, built-in test or calibration.

Conditions

Based in Baltimore, MD.

Secret clearance is required to start.

Travel is about 10% of the time.

Primary-level base salary range is $108,800.00 to $163,200.00, set by scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills and market conditions.
