The role is Principal, Data Scientist, based at 811 Excellence Dr, Bentonville, AR 72716.
The work centres on turning business problems into data science solutions, from framing the problem through to modelling and measuring impact, and includes guiding junior associates.
Responsibilities
Analyse business problems in your area of expertise, question underlying assumptions and work with the business to find root causes.
Recommend approaches that solve those problems with technology-focused solutions, and set deliverables and key metrics against agreed success criteria.
Quantify business impact and build business cases with return on investment estimates, making sure the work delivers measurable value.
Understand business context across two or more domains such as product, finance, marketing, sales, technology, business systems and human resources, including the relevant metrics and business areas.
Assess proposed business cases for projects and initiatives, turn business requirements into strategies and projects aligned with business objectives, and drive delivery.
Challenge business assumptions in your domain, and mentor team members on new business insights and developments in the field.
Engage with the external community to build the company's brand and keep up with industry practice.
Identify the most suitable data sources for each need, using external sources where required, and check the quality of extracted data.
Understand data priorities and service level agreements, and review junior associates' work on data sourcing and quality.
Choose modelling techniques for complex, large-scale problems involving structured and unstructured data, and select and refine features iteratively with the business.
Run exploratory data analysis, design experiments and build test-and-learn frameworks, and identify trends that apply to future data.
Build continuous, online model learning and iterate on models over time.
Develop new techniques using recent advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence, and apply trained models to new data sets.
