Principal AI Solutions Engineer

The role supports the company's AI, automation and digital transformation work. You will design, build, deploy and maintain software that combines artificial intelligence, workflow automation, enterprise integrations and analytics.

This is a hands-on software engineering position. You will build production-grade applications, write code, connect systems, work with APIs and deliver scalable solutions for the business, using cloud platforms, enterprise tools and approved AI capabilities to improve processes, productivity and decisions.

You will work with stakeholders in engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, finance, HR, sales and IT to find opportunities, turn business needs into technical solutions and carry work through design, build, testing, release, governance and support.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship AI-enabled applications, automation, integrations and enterprise software with approved technologies and platforms.
• Work with business stakeholders to spot chances for AI, automation and process gains, and turn their requirements into solutions that scale, stay secure and can be supported.
• Own solution delivery across the full lifecycle: requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, documentation and support.
• Create and maintain apps, APIs, integrations, workflows and data-driven tools using current software engineering practice.
• Build AI solutions on enterprise AI platforms, large language models and AI-assisted coding tools, and check AI-generated code for quality, security and production readiness.
• Diagnose application faults, fix them, and keep improving reliability, performance and user experience.
• Work with architecture, security, infrastructure and data teams to meet enterprise standards, governance rules and responsible AI practice.
• Set reusable development standards, templates and best practices so solutions can scale across the company.
• Coach citizen developers and business solution owners, and move successful solutions into governed production environments.

Requirements

• Experience in artificial intelligence, AI planning, AI software, AI strategy, AI systems (AIS), AI techniques and AI technologies.
• Experience with cloud data architecture and cloud data integration.
• Experience with the Databricks platform and Microsoft Azure PaaS.
• Education and experience: at least 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 8 years with a Master's degree, or a PhD with 5 years of experience, or equivalent experience.
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, information technology, engineering or a related technical field.
• Preferred: Master's degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, data science, software engineering or a related field.
• Preferred: Experience in software engineering, application development, automation, AI enablement, analytics, digital transformation or related areas.
• Preferred: Hands-on experience building, deploying and supporting production software and enterprise solutions.
• Preferred: Strong programming skills in Java, Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, C or similar modern languages.
• Preferred: Experience building and consuming APIs, integrations and cloud services.
• Preferred: Knowledge of engineering practice: source control, testing, code reviews, CI/CD, monitoring and production support.
• Preferred: Understanding of secure development, authentication, authorization, data protection and application security.
• Preferred: Experience assessing and using AI-assisted development tools and their output.
• Preferred: Strong analytical, problem-solving and stakeholder communication skills.
• Preferred: Experience with global organizations, manufacturing operations or high-tech environments.
• Preferred: Azure OpenAI, Microsoft Copilot Studio, GitHub Copilot, Power Platform, AI agents, LLMs, prompt engineering, AI-assisted development and workflow automation.
• Preferred: Java, Python, TypeScript, JavaScript, C, REST APIs, microservices, web application development, application architecture, object-oriented programming and software design patterns.
• Preferred: Microsoft Azure, Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Databricks, SQL Server, cloud-native services, data integration, data pipelines, analytics platforms and reporting solutions.
• Preferred: GitHub, Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code reviews, source control, application monitoring, deployment automation and release management.
• Preferred: Enterprise application integration, ERP platforms, workflow orchestration, API development, business intelligence, data visualization, process automation and digital workplace solutions.

Conditions

The regular schedule is day shift.

Based in Lexington, Kentucky, the salary range is $132,400.00 to $173,775.00 per year, depending on experience, skills and background. Pay may differ in other locations.
