Description

The aeronautics systems business is hiring a quality engineer for Clearfield, Utah. The role may be filled at Principal Engineer Quality or Sr. Principal Engineer Quality level.

You will review mission assurance specifications and processes so the program reaches its mission goals, and you will safeguard quality, risk, safety, reliability and maintainability across program work, subcontractors and suppliers.

You will work with the Quality team on continuous improvement and on meeting contract obligations.

Responsibilities

• Use strong problem-solving and clear written and spoken communication to carry out technical assessments.
• Take part in Change Control Board (CCB) meetings and data review activities.
• Talk regularly with operations, programming, engineering staff and outside customers.
• Lead failure investigations, customer corrective action requests (CARs) and escapement reviews, using data analysis to drive fixes.
• Report to customers on investigations and actions for each complaint or escapement within the time they set.
• Build and roll out program quality inspection plans.
• Prepare first article inspection packages for internal sign-off or for the end customer.
• Judge risks tied to customer quality demands and contract terms, and support Quality Engineering in reviewing new contracts.
• Give daily quality assurance engineering support to program groups such as operations, production control and design engineering, as needed.
• Lead cross-functional teams in setting and keeping quality standards.
• Explain solutions, ideas and concepts clearly to mixed audiences.
• Apply working knowledge of Material Review Board (MRB) standards, practices and customer dealings.
• Work with manufacturing, engineering, program management and subcontractors to settle issues and nonconformances.
• Take on assigned special projects that support mission assurance priorities and goals.

Requirements

• Level 3 (Principal Engineer Quality): a STEM bachelor's degree plus 5 years in quality engineering or mission assurance, or a master's degree plus 3+ years in the same fields.
• Level 4 (Sr. Principal Engineer Quality): a STEM bachelor's degree plus 8 years in quality engineering or mission assurance, or a master's degree plus 6+ years in the same fields.
• Understanding of root cause and corrective action methods.
• Understanding of inspection plans and first article inspections.
• Knowledge of quality management systems such as AS9100, ISO 9001 or military quality assurance.
• Track record of juggling tasks and hitting deadlines with careful attention to detail.
• Hands-on skill with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Preferred: experience mentoring junior engineers and acting as a technical go-to for the team.
• Preferred: technical review of drawings, statements of work and requirements traceability documents.
• Preferred: experience processing, monitoring and analyzing data, and reporting metrics for the whole program and its segments.
• Preferred: knowledge of quality management systems such as AS9100, ISO 9001 or military quality assurance.
• Preferred: experience in manufacturing, quality controls, inspection and/or nonconformance control.
• Preferred: prior aircraft manufacturing experience.
• Preferred: background in composites.
• Preferred: knowledge of data analysis methods and tools.

Conditions

The opening is on A shift, on a 9/80 schedule.

You must be willing to work any shift, and schedules can vary.

The role is based in Clearfield, Utah, with travel about 10% of the time.

No security clearance is needed to start.

Base pay: Primary level $89,400.00 to $134,200.00; Secondary level $111,700.00 to $167,500.00. These ranges are a general guide. The company weighs the role's scope and your experience, education, skills and market conditions when setting pay.
