Presales Systems Engineer - Summer 2027 Internship

The company builds mission-critical communications, enterprise video security, and emergency command center software, serving public safety agencies, defense agencies, and enterprises in more than 100 countries. Founded in 1928 and headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, it organizes its work around land mobile radio networks and subscriber devices, AI-enabled video surveillance, access control and body-worn cameras, and command center software for Next-Gen 911, computer-aided dispatch, and real-time records management.

The Presales Systems Engineering Team supports state and local government public safety projects across the Southeast Region from the Brentwood, TN office. The team handles technical design, planning, and implementation of mission-critical infrastructure and subscriber solutions.

As the Presales System Engineer intern, you will work alongside Communication Systems Engineers who design radio communication solutions from concept through implementation. You will help consult customers on their requirements so the team can design the right solution. Senior engineers mentor junior engineers, and the team expects everyone to take ownership of their professional and technical growth.

Responsibilities

• Work with sales, product development, and project management to build technical strategies and write proposals that present the company's solutions to customers.
• Support the design and planning of customer solutions using advanced technologies, and provide technical support through the pre-sales phase.
• Help with coverage and antenna site selection, frequency planning, interference analysis, system architecture design, equipment selection, proposal writing, and presenting proposed solutions to customers.
• Help implement solutions as they were originally designed.
• Own all technical aspects of an assigned project from award through system acceptance.
• Help with implementation planning, system acceptance testing, coverage testing, and system staging.
• Keep sales professionals and customers informed about the company's latest technology and how it fits customer needs.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• Enrolled in or pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree, with an expected graduation date on or after December 2027. You will return to school in fall 2027.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex topics to non-technical audiences.
• Self-motivated, with the ability to stay focused under pressure.
• Preferred: experience working with customers.
• Preferred: experience or knowledge of radio systems, radio propagation, RF, wireless, broadband, microwave, and/or networking.
• Preferred: experience or knowledge of communications networks such as MPLS, Ethernet, and TCP/IP.
• Preferred: certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA, and/or Amateur Radio/HAM.

Conditions

Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this role.

Preferred candidates live in Brentwood, TN or Alpharetta, GA.

On site five days a week.

Travel is under 10%.

Relocation is provided.
