Presales Engineering Intern - Summer 2027 Internship

The company builds and connects communications technology for public safety, helping first responders communicate, get real-time information and see what they need in critical moments.

The West Projects Pre-Sales Engineering Team supports the Sales Organization with technical work. Engineers turn communications solutions into real designs.

As the Presales System Engineer intern, you will work closely with Communication Systems Engineers who design radio communication solutions, from concept through implementation, based on what customers need. Senior engineers help colleagues build skills, including mentoring junior system engineers. Engineers are expected to act professionally and take ownership of their technical and professional growth.

Responsibilities

• Work with sales, product development and project management to set technical strategy and write proposals that present the company's solutions to customers.
• Help design and plan customer solutions using advanced technologies, and give technical support through the pre-sales phase.
• Handle coverage and antenna site selection, frequency planning, interference analysis, system architecture design, equipment selection, proposal writing and presenting solutions to customers.
• Help implement solutions as they were originally designed.
• Own all technical aspects of an assigned project from award until system acceptance.
• Support implementation planning, system acceptance testing, coverage testing and system staging.
• Keep sales staff and customers informed about the company's latest technology and how it fits customer needs.

Requirements

• High School Diploma required.
• Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program, with an expected graduation date on or after December 2027, and returning to school in Fall 2027.
• Indefinite legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Work permit sponsorship from the employer is not available for this role.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex topics to non-technical audiences.
• Self-motivated, able to stay focused under pressure.
• Preferred: experience working with customers.
• Preferred: experience or knowledge of radio systems, radio propagation, RF, wireless, broadband, microwave and/or networking.
• Preferred: experience or knowledge of communications networks such as MPLS, Ethernet and TCP/IP.
• Preferred: certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA and/or Amateur Radio/HAM.

Conditions

Full-time internship, Monday to Friday, hybrid.

Candidates living in or near Chicago are preferred.

Travel is under 10%.

Relocation is provided.
