The company is hiring a Junior Pavement Engineer or Pavement Engineer for its growing Pavements team in the Linear Infrastructure group, which supports highways, civil and aviation programs from feasibility work through detailed design, tendering and construction support.
You will work on pavement-led assignments such as condition assessments, investigations and life cycle analysis, plus multidisciplinary projects for public and private clients. These include long term frameworks with Local Authorities and Design & Build commissions for major contractors.
The team has delivered work across Australia, the USA, the UK, Canada and the Middle East. Experience in any of these regions is highly valued.
The company is a Fortune 500 firm with more than 50,000 staff and revenue of $16.1 billion in fiscal year 2025. It works across water, environment, energy, transportation and buildings, from advisory and planning through design, engineering, and program and construction management.
Responsibilities
Prepare pavement design inputs for flexible, rigid and composite pavements on highways, airfields and civil sites, including analysis, calculations, design reports, drawings, bills of quantities and specifications.
Help plan and interpret pavement investigations and condition surveys, using FWD, GPR, coring and DCP data, visual inspections, materials test reviews and deterioration analysis.
Support evaluations of rehabilitation and maintenance options, life cycle cost analysis and ranking of treatment strategies against client budgets and performance targets.
Produce and check CAD drawings and design models with the digital and CAD teams, making sure outputs meet applicable standards and client requirements.
Contribute to tender packs, method statements and technical notes, and help answer technical queries during construction.
Work with geotechnical, highways, drainage, structures, traffic and construction colleagues to fit pavement solutions into the wider design.
Follow internal QA/QC procedures, document control rules, health and safety requirements and risk management practices on every project.
Present analyses and recommendations clearly to clients in meetings and workshops.
Help program and report on tasks, covering scope, schedule and progress updates, and take on small work packages under senior engineers' guidance.
Manage project data such as survey datasets, GIS layers and laboratory results, and help build reusable templates and digital workflows.
Requirements
A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field, with an interest in pavements, highways or geotechnical engineering.
2, 5 years of experience in pavement design, investigation or rehabilitation planning. Internships and placements count.
Working knowledge of standards in at least one region, such as Austroads, UK DMRB or MCHW, AASHTO or ME, or FAA guidance.
Understanding of pavement design principles, including mechanistic empirical concepts, traffic and loading, materials characterization, subgrade behavior and drainage.
Proficiency in MS Office and basic CAD such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D or equivalent, with the ability to produce clear sketches and markups.
Strong analytical and written communication skills, with close attention to detail in calculations, reports and presentations.
A collaborative approach, a drive to learn, and the ability to juggle priorities across several projects at once.
Highly valued (nice to have):
Experience with pavement tools such as AASHTOWare Pavement ME, Circly, KENPAVE, EverStress or equivalent, and interpreting FWD, GPR and IRI data.
Exposure to materials testing for binders, asphalt, concrete and granulars, along with specifications and mix design basics.
Familiarity with GIS workflows for asset mapping and program planning, and or basic scripting for data processing, such as Excel VBA or Python.
Experience on Design & Build projects or public sector frameworks.
Field experience in site investigations, construction monitoring or QA checks, and awareness of site safety protocols.
Work or academic exposure to Australian, US, UK, Canadian or Middle Eastern standards and practices.
