You will help develop, integrate, verify and certify safety-critical onboard computing systems used in air refueling.

The team builds high-integrity firmware and software that must meet demanding aeronautical safety and certification standards, including RTCA DO-254 and DO-178B/C at DAL A/B, and works closely with multidisciplinary engineering groups.

Responsibilities

  • Define and manage firmware and software requirements for safety-critical onboard computing platforms in the Air Refueling domain.
  • Design and build safety-critical firmware, mainly on FPGA technology in VHDL, meeting RTCA DO-254 DAL A/B requirements.
  • Carry out hardware, firmware and software integration testing, including verification, simulation, technical reviews and analysis.
  • Help develop and verify safety-critical software to RTCA DO-178B/C DAL A/B standards.
  • Support hardware and software certification by preparing technical evidence and showing compliance to the relevant authorities.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams across the lifecycle to keep technical quality, traceability, documentation and continuous improvement on track.

Requirements

  • Degree in Telecommunications, Electronic, Computer, Industrial or Aeronautical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Hands-on firmware or software experience, ideally on FPGA-based systems and safety-critical applications.
  • Experience working under DO-254 DAL A/B certification is highly relevant.
  • Strong knowledge of FPGA, CPLD and VHDL, especially on Xilinx and Altera devices.
  • Knowledge of C/C++ and embedded software development.
  • Experience with hardware verification and simulation in ModelSim, Questa or Xilinx ISim.
  • Knowledge of RTCA DO-254 and DO-178B/C, particularly DAL A/B certification and verification processes.
  • Experience with hardware, firmware and software integration testing, structural coverage analysis, static timing analysis and design constraints.
  • Knowledge of modelling tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, UML, SysML and SCADE.
  • Familiarity with version control and continuous integration using Git and Bitbucket.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, teamwork, attention to detail and adaptability, with the ability to work with multidisciplinary engineers.
  • English proficiency suitable for an international engineering environment.
  • Optional: experience with NI VeriStand, LabVIEW and Xilinx Integrated Logic Analyzer (ILA).
  • Optional: knowledge of MATLAB scripting, Python and test automation.
  • Optional: experience with HDL Coder, HDL Verifier and other MATLAB/Simulink verification tools.
  • Optional: knowledge of Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS), partitioning architectures and ARINC 653.
  • Optional: experience with software certification under DO-178B/C DAL A/B.
  • Optional: experience with Agile, Scrum, Kanban and CI/CD.
  • Optional: knowledge of hardware/software co-design for System-on-Chip (SoC) architectures.
