Description

Welcome to Bosch Motorsport, a premier supplier of electronics, sensors, actuators, and engineering services to top racing series (Formula 1, IMSA, IndyCar, NASCAR, SuperGT, WEC, WRC), manufactures, and teams worldwide. Here at Bosch Motorsport North America, you'll be part of a growing, dynamic, and entrepreneurial team, taking on challenging tasks.

We are seeking a highly motived and passionate graduate engineer to join our team. This role allows you to play a key role in the development, testing, and application of key components for Bosch Motorsport globally. Embrace this opportunity to make an impact in the exciting world of motorsport technology!

Responsibilities

  • The Motorsport Software and Data Analytics Graduate Intern will be paired with an experienced engineering mentor and will work alongside simulation and software development engineers to support the development, integration, validation, and optimization of electronic systems, connectivity solutions, and software applications for professional motorsport customers across North America and global racing programs. The Graduate Intern will have dedicated project(s) and own the key deliverables by the end of the work term.
  • This role provides hands-on experience in a fast-paced, high-performance motorsport environment and will include multiple of the following attribute areas (not necessarily all):
  • Simulation & Performance Analysis: Support vehicle and power unit simulation activities, sensitivity analysis, model development, and comparison of simulation results with dyno, test, and track data.
  • Data Analysis & Visualization: Analyze and visualize simulation and telemetry data using MATLAB, Python, WinDarab (our specialized data evaluation and analysis tool) and other engineering tools to support performance evaluation and technical decision-making.
  • System Testing & Validation: Support Hardware-In-the-Loop, cloud, and system-level testing for complex controls systems; analyze results, investigate discrepancies, and document findings.
  • Telemetry & Trackside Engineering: Support the development, testing, and deployment of motorsport connectivity and telemetry systems, including possible opportunities to assist with track and test events.
  • Application Engineering Support: Work alongside engineers to understand customer requirements and support motorsport products and services, including powertrain controls systems and telemetry and cloud-based data solutions.
  • Automation & Process Improvement: Develop scripts, dashboards, and automated analysis or reporting workflows using MATLAB, Python, C, or similar tools.
  • Technical Project Ownership: Take ownership of defined graduate-level projects in simulation, telemetry, data analytics, automation, or performance analysis, with guidance from experienced engineers.
  • Structured Mentorship and Professional Development: Partner with an assigned full-time engineer to receive peer-to-peer technical guidance, prioritize daily deliverables, and build foundational motorsport engineering skills. This is also an opportunity for reverse mentoring.

Requirements

  • Required Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a Masters or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or Data Science or in a dual degree program from an accredited four-year college or university in Engineering, Computer Science, or Data Science/Analytics
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • 3+ years of hands-on motorsport or relevant experience with vehicle, ICE and/or hybrid controls (industry, FSAE, EcoCar, etc.)
  • Desired Qualifications
  • Hands-on Automotive Experience: Practical, hands-on vehicle controls systems experience related to combustion engines, high voltage hybrid systems, data acquisition systems, wiring harness design, sensor application, and/or mechanical troubleshooting (e.g., project cars, Formula SAE, or shop experience).
  • Programming and Scripting: Programming or scripting experience (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C, C++, embedded Linux) for data processing, automation, or testing purposes. Appropriate and responsible use of AI for acceleration of both technical and daily tasks.
  • Modeling and Simulation: Modeling and simulation experience (e.g., Matlab/Simulink) developing and refining plant models and/or developing and integration of Functional Mock-up Unit container files for Hardware-In-the-Loop or Driver-In-the-Loop test environments
  • Automotive Communications and Networking: Foundational knowledge of automotive communications (e.g., CAN, Ethernet) and wired/wireless networking (e.g., LAN, WAN).
  • Diagnostic Tool Proficiency: Experience with industry standard diagnostic, testing, and measurement tools (e.g., Vector tools, dSPACE products, oscilloscopes)
  • Demonstrated Leadership & Technical Research: Project work with full end to end scope ownership in work delivery. Graduate research, technical leadership, design reports, publications, or significant independent projects related to automotive, motorsport, connectivity, simulation, telemetry, or powertrain engineering.
  • Ideal Candidate Characteristics
  • Motorsport Passion and Drive: Possesses a genuine enthusiasm for professional motorsport and an eagerness to make meaningful technical contributions.
  • Proactive Self-Starter: Thrives in an agile, hands-on environment; takes initiative to ask questions, research solutions, and execute tasks with accountability.
  • Data-Driven and Adaptable: Approaches engineering problems with objective logic, pivoting quickly when requirements change.
  • Disciplined Team Player: Communicates test observations and data findings clearly (both verbally and in writing) while collaborating seamlessly within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Curiosity and Growth Mindset: Eager to step outside of immediate academic comfort zone to learn new software skills, hardware implementations, and systems.
