Mobile Developer - FLEX/ CONTRACT

Description

The company is a billion-dollar global firm based in Research Triangle Park, NC, supplying in-store solutions to retailers and describing itself as the world's installed market share leader.

As a contractor, you would help build mobile software that connects web applications with physical retail hardware, in an engineering team that works heavily with AI.

The company says retail is changing quickly and wants a seamless, two-way shopping experience.

Responsibilities

• Write mobile code in TypeScript (TSX), Flutter/Dart and Kotlin for Android.
• Build WebView features that let web applications reach native device functions.
• Maintain the JavaScript bridge between Flutter and embedded web content.
• Create and support native integrations for receipt printers, barcode scanners and payment terminals.
• Apply BLoC or Cubit patterns to manage state in Flutter.
• Help write request and response handlers for device broker protocols.
• Review peers' code in GitLab, act on feedback and follow good practice.
• Work in a squad and deliver to Product Management's direction.
• Follow established processes for code quality and suggest improvements.
• Take part in Scrum ceremonies: planning, standups, estimation and retrospectives.
• Use AI coding assistants such as Codex, Claude Code or GitHub Copilot to speed up development and raise code quality.
• Use AI to generate tests, suggest refactors and prototype user experiences and backend workflows.
• Write effective prompts, share what works and improve the team's prompts.
• Work with senior engineers to bring AI findings into CI/CD, QA and documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• 2, 8 years of professional software development experience.
• Experience with Flutter/Dart, or a strong interest in mobile app development.
• Experience with React/TypeScript, Kotlin or Java for Android.
• Understanding of WebView integration and native-to-web bridge communication.
• Familiarity with BLoC, Cubit or similar state management.
• Basic knowledge of JSON serialization and API communication.
• Familiarity with GitLab workflows, including merge requests and pipelines.
• Exposure to agile development, Scrum and CI/CD.
• Proficient in written and spoken English.
• Strong collaboration skills and a commitment to continuous improvement.
• Strongly Preferred: Experience using AI coding assistants such as Codex, Claude Code or GitHub Copilot.
• Strongly Preferred: Ability to write effective prompts for AI development tools.
• Strongly Preferred: Interest in applied AI for software development, automation or developer tooling.
• Preferred: Experience with retail device integration for receipt printers, barcode scanners and payment terminals.
• Preferred: Familiarity with ESC/POS or UPOS printer command protocols.
• Preferred: Experience with device SDKs such as Zebra EMDK, Sunmi and Toshiba hardware.
• Preferred: Knowledge of deep linking and mobile app URL schemes.
• Preferred: Experience with Flutter testing frameworks such as fluttertest, mocktail and bloctest.
• Preferred: Understanding of Gradle and Android build tooling.
• Preferred: Familiarity with Jenkins for CI/CD.
• Preferred: Knowledge of mobile UX best practices for retail and POS environments.

Conditions

Flex contract, 6 months, 40 hours per week.

Hourly pay of $45.00-$60.00, depending on skills and experience.

Based in the general area of Durham, NC, in the office 5 days a week.
