Middle/Senior Java Developer

Description

The company builds large-scale backend services and infrastructure for consumer electronics and digital services, used by millions of users worldwide, with privacy, reliability and a smooth user experience as core priorities.

The project is a long-term onsite role in Malmö, Sweden, on privacy-sensitive distributed services running under high production load.

You will work in a small, autonomous engineering team on the full cycle, from architecture talks and coding through deployment and production support.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable Java backend services and internal frameworks.
• Take part in architecture discussions and help shape technical solutions.
• Build and support customer-facing services, with attention to reliability, availability, security and performance.
• Find and fix complex production issues involving concurrency and distributed systems.
• Work on authentication, authorization, caching, data storage and service integrations.
• Coordinate with several engineering teams and manage technical dependencies between them.
• Take part in code reviews, automated tests, CI/CD and releases.
• Write technical documentation and explain technical decisions to stakeholders.
• Own features and technical solutions end to end, from concept to production.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of paid Java backend development experience.
• Solid hands-on work with Java and distributed systems.
• Deep knowledge of Java internals, including the Java Memory Model, garbage collection, concurrency and multithreading.
• Experience diagnosing production issues under high load.
• Strong grasp of distributed systems concepts such as consistency, reliability, partitioning and failure handling.
• Experience building and scaling customer-facing backend services.
• Experience with authentication and authorization mechanisms.
• Hands-on use of Cassandra, Redis, Memcached or similar technologies.
• Experience building REST services with Netty or similar frameworks.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• English at Upper-Intermediate level or higher.
• Strong sense of ownership and accountability.
• Ability to work independently within autonomous engineering teams.
• Attention to detail and a focus on engineering quality.
• Clear communication and good collaboration skills.
• Ability to work well in complex distributed environments.
• Nice to have: knowledge of cryptography standards and protocols such as PKCS, KMIP, X.509, AES, KDF and CA.
• Nice to have: experience with security- and privacy-sensitive systems.
• Nice to have: familiarity with machine learning systems or algorithms.
• Nice to have: experience with GitHub.
• Nice to have: experience with Maven, Docker, Kubernetes, Spinnaker or similar tools.
