Description

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract for a Marketing Manager in the advertising sales arm of the company. The marketing team sets and runs marketing strategy across the advertising industry.

You will turn the commercial objectives of the department or departments you are aligned to into marketing plans. You deliver those plans with an internal capability layer covering content, digital and social, events and creative. The plans target CMOs, Media Directors and several roles inside their media agencies.

The role depends on influence rather than authority. You report to the Head of Marketing, while the Marketing Controller manages all capability. You will get support from that capability and from dedicated project management. You need to be at ease with senior stakeholders and willing to work hands-on alongside the specialists, building relationships that get results.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the marketing lead for your aligned department or departments, and be part of setting commercial priorities rather than hearing about them afterwards.
  • Learn the department's revenue targets, clients, competitors and sales cycle in detail.
  • Tell the department early what marketing can realistically deliver, and set expectations before they turn into disappointment.
  • Build a year-long marketing programme for the department with a clear commercial purpose, a calendar, a budget and defined deliverables.
  • Plan within the capacity model. Any plan not yet checked against capacity is a draft, not a commitment.
  • Spread peaks of activity across the year so they do not clash with other programmes in the same quarter.
  • Re-scope the programme each quarter, or sooner if needed, against actual capacity and current commercial priorities.
  • Write briefs that a specialist can act on without a second meeting.
  • Set out clearly what capability you need, and accept allocation decisions without reopening them one by one.
  • Work with Project Management to keep the critical path visible and raise slippage early.
  • Agree with the department and the Head of Marketing, before work starts, how the programme's contribution will be measured.
  • Report progress and results to the department and the wider marketing function on a regular schedule.
  • Stop activity that is not working instead of finishing it because it is already in the plan.
  • Share what works with the other Marketing Managers rather than optimising one programme at the expense of the function.

Requirements

  • Essential: you have owned a marketing plan or programme from start to finish, including planning, delivery and reporting.
  • Essential: you have delivered work through people who do not report to you.
  • Essential: you manage senior commercial stakeholders well, including saying no while keeping the relationship intact.
  • Essential: you are comfortable with revenue targets, pipeline and how the department you support makes money.
  • Essential: you write and brief clearly and well.
  • Essential: you can build a plan that holds up under a capacity constraint.
  • Desirable: experience in media, broadcast, advertising sales or a media agency.
  • Desirable: experience of matrix or shared-service marketing models.
