Description

The role is based in Charlotte, NC, with three days a week required at the Southend office.

Candidates must already be legally authorized to work in the United States. The company will not sponsor employment visas for this position, now or later.

The team builds models and AI solutions that help consumers reach better financial outcomes. The company is looking for a manager to lead the data science team, set its direction, and make sure each model delivers measurable business results.

You will plan the team's road map, from finding where machine learning and AI add the most value to moving solutions from prototype to production at scale. The role suits someone who is comfortable discussing model architecture, weighing business trade-offs, and developing people.

The team works closely with engineering, MLOps, product, analytics, platform leaders, and senior business stakeholders. The work is highly collaborative, and you will stay hands-on where your team needs it.

The company describes itself as collaborative and entrepreneurial, with a culture of recognizing good work and having fun.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of data scientists, building their technical skills, growth, and scientific rigor.
  • Work with senior stakeholders to find and rank the problems where machine learning and AI can deliver the most value.
  • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of scalable, reproducible models, guiding the team through data acquisition, feature engineering, and the full model lifecycle from prototype to production.
  • Set standards for experimentation, modeling, validation, and monitoring, and for documentation, testing, versioning, and code review.
  • Make explainability, fairness, and reliability part of every model-driven solution.
  • Turn complex analysis into clear, actionable insights for technical and business audiences, and align business units so models fit real needs.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in applied data science, including leading or managing people.
  • A record of leading teams through the full ML lifecycle: data preparation, modeling, validation, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Advanced skills in Python, SQL, and data science libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, PyTorch, and TensorFlow.
  • Experience with cloud ML platforms. AWS SageMaker or Snowpark is preferred.
  • A solid grasp of MLOps, reproducibility, and governance practices.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with a history of business impact.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to influence technical and executive audiences.
  • PhD is a plus.
  • Experience in fintech or other data-rich, high-scale consumer businesses is a plus.
  • Background in software engineering, model deployment, or data platform integration is a plus.
  • Experience managing hybrid teams with both on-site and remote members is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of GenAI and LLM capabilities is a plus, ideally including building Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) and agentic workflows.
  • Curiosity, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Comfort working in fast-paced, highly ambiguous, cross-functional settings, and a drive to build scalable, responsible AI and data science solutions.
