Description

The western region engineering group within the company's space systems sector is hiring a Cyber Systems Engineering Manager 2 at its Space Park site in Redondo Beach, CA.

The role gives technical and functional direction to build and run a top-tier systems engineering organization that supports several divisions and programs. The work covers space systems programs and campaigns, plus research and technology development.

This is a dual role: you manage people and also own technical delivery on one specific program.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the building, design, integration, testing and rollout of advanced solutions for space programs, campaigns and research efforts.
  • Lead a section of 10 to 15 technical staff and answer for how well their program work is delivered.
  • Provide functional oversight and allocate the resources teams need.
  • Forecast staffing and workload, drive employee engagement, mentor people, guide career growth, and plan the training needed for program work.
  • Work with program leads, CAMs and assignment managers to align technical delivery and staffing with business goals.
  • Take part in sourcing, recruiting, onboarding and performance management.
  • Support business strategy work, including proposals, gate reviews, the independent review team and NAR/ICE reviews, as needed.
  • Build and maintain the processes and tools that current and future programs need in the space sector's system security and cyber engineering portfolio.

Requirements

  • Eight years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree, six years with a master's degree, or four years with a PhD.
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to work well in a team.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • High proficiency in solving technical problems.
  • Technical depth in cybersecurity areas such as the risk management framework, software assurance, security architecture, security monitoring, cryptography, vulnerability scanning and management, and security testing and evaluation, among others.
  • You must be able to manage, recruit and retain employees.
  • You must be able to build diverse, inclusive teams with high engagement, including through mentoring and coaching.
  • A track record of building good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and of solving problems while communicating clearly.
  • Technical experience in systems security and/or cyber engineering.
  • A commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capacity to innovate.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication is required.
  • The role carries up to 15% coverage, so at least 85% of your current coverage must already be on a space sector program in Redondo Beach, CA.
  • You must hold an active SCI when you apply, or hold an active U.S. government Top Secret clearance (or equivalent) when you apply and before your start date, with the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain an active SCI before starting. Continued employment depends on keeping the clearance and program access the role requires.
  • Preferred: hands-on experience designing, architecting or supporting system security engineering for embedded products such as space vehicles.
  • Preferred: familiarity with systems engineering processes and artifacts.
  • Preferred: program leadership on a program tied to the section.
  • Preferred: a master's degree in a relevant technical or management specialty.
  • Preferred: experience with program reviews and business development.
  • Preferred: active TS/SCI and SAP clearance.
  • Preferred: experience with the company's space systems programs, teams, architectures and domain.
  • Preferred: a DoD 8140 qualification.
