Description

The company is hiring a Linux Development Engineer for the team that builds and evolves its Debian-based Linux distribution, which supports mission-critical intelligent systems.

You will work with engineers across other teams and with open-source communities to deliver dependable Linux platform features, solve system-level problems, refine how the team develops software, and help the platform keep growing.

Responsibilities

  • Build, upkeep, and extend system components for the distribution.
  • Create, revise, and maintain Debian packages across their whole lifecycle.
  • Submit patches, bug fixes, and new features to relevant open-source projects.
  • Write robust, maintainable code in Python, Go, Bash, C, and C++.
  • Set up and run GitLab CI or GitHub Actions pipelines that automate builds, tests, and deployments.
  • Diagnose and fix problems in Linux user-space and low-level system components.
  • Record development workflows, design decisions, and implementation details in documentation.
  • Work with other engineering teams on platform integration and feature delivery.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in Linux systems development, distribution engineering, or a closely related software engineering role.
  • Hands-on work with Linux distributions, ideally Debian or another Debian-based platform.
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source software.
  • Programming skills in Python, Go, Bash, C, or C++.
  • Experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines with GitLab CI or GitHub Actions.
  • Solid grasp of Linux fundamentals, command-line tools, system internals, and debugging.
  • Preferred: experience with AWS or another cloud platform, Docker, Kubernetes, Linux kernel internals, device drivers, low-level debugging, or large-scale open-source initiatives.

Conditions

Base pay is $75,000 to $95,000 CAD, plus an annual incentive plan bonus.

Pay is set by education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, abilities, and internal equity.

The role follows a hybrid work arrangement.

The company is an equal opportunity employer.

Benefits

  • Company-sponsored health, dental, and life insurance.
  • Short- and long-term disability coverage for income protection.
  • Matching RRSP contributions.
  • Vacation and time-off policies that support work-life balance.
  • Well-being programs, including an Employee Assistance Program and Unmind.
  • Learning support through LinkedIn Learning and seminars.
  • A global workplace where people from different backgrounds can grow and lead.
