Description

You will join the systems engineering team in the fab solutions division of the company, working across disciplines from systems engineering through to product development.

The role centres on the software architecture for a new tool that inspects and analyses semiconductor wafers.

You will report on software architecture to the project and represent software in reviews and discussions with customers and partners.

Responsibilities

  • Own the overall software architecture of the wafer inspection and analysis tool.
  • Design and grow a modular, scalable and maintainable architecture covering system control, data acquisition, data processing, the user interface and integration into fab environments.
  • Work with the lead system engineer on hardware and software co-development, keeping system architecture, control concepts and data flows aligned across all layers.
  • Turn system and customer requirements into software requirements, components and interfaces, and keep them traceable through the development lifecycle with product management and product architects.
  • Write and maintain internal and external software interface specifications, communication protocols and data models.
  • Guide choices of technologies, frameworks and development tools that fit company standards and the long-term product strategy.
  • Lead software design reviews, code quality measures and architecture governance with the development teams.
  • Define and support software integration, testing and deployment strategies, including automated testing and CI/CD where it fits.
  • Balance performance, robustness, usability, cybersecurity and maintainability with product management, systems engineering and other disciplines.
  • Identify and reduce software technical risks, support effort estimates and handle architecture change requests.
  • Build a culture of technical excellence, clean architecture and continuous improvement in the software teams.

Requirements

  • A degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, physics or a comparable field, plus several years of professional software development experience. A PhD is a plus.
  • Several years of software architecture and design for complex systems or machines in industrial metrology, automation or similar high-tech fields. Semiconductor experience is an advantage.
  • Solid experience designing modular, distributed, high-reliability software, including interface and API design.
  • Hands-on experience with modern programming languages and technologies used in machine control and data processing, along with version control, CI/CD and testing practice.
  • Experience with hardware and software co-development, ideally working closely with systems engineering, electronics and controls.
  • Strong analytical and systematic problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound architecture decisions under constraints.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with interdisciplinary stakeholders.
  • Experience with development processes such as agile, V-model or hybrid approaches, and the toolchains that go with them.
  • Comfort in a highly dynamic environment and a willingness to drive change.
  • Very good English.
