Description

The company's next major game, a follow-up to its 2077 title, is being built by its North American team based in Boston.

You would lead the engineering group that builds story technology for this game. The story system is central to how the company delivers narrative-heavy experiences.

The role sits between creative intent and technical delivery. You would work with story content creators, quest leads, directors, and the central architects and maintainers of the shared in-house story framework.

Responsibilities

  • Manage direct reports and support their professional growth and career goals.
  • Hold regular 1:1s, run performance reviews, and plan hiring and promotions.
  • Mentor engineers on code quality, team workflow, and technical execution.
  • Turn creative and narrative needs from quest designers, content leads, and directors into clear technical requirements.
  • Bring feature requests, integration needs, and improvements to the central team that maintains the shared quest system, across projects.
  • Lead delivery of quest features so engineering work gets done well and on time.
  • Keep quest tools fast at runtime while letting content creators iterate smoothly.
  • Maintain and improve story and quest features so they work with the rest of the game.
  • Build strong, collaborative ways of working with shared technology teams that serve several projects.
  • Write clean, optimized, maintainable C++.
  • Find, diagnose, and fix bugs in quest features and authoring tools.
  • Work with cinematic, narrative, and core gameplay teams so quest systems fit every part of the game.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of professional programming in the AAA games industry.
  • 1+ years of technical leadership, people management, or leading a team of engineers.
  • Strong C++ skills.
  • Hands-on experience building custom quest systems, narrative tools, or node-based editor workflows.
  • A record of working in a collaborative shared technology setting across several teams or projects.
  • Ability to understand what creative and less technical colleagues need and turn their vision into technical requirements.
  • Clear communication and teamwork across time zones and cultures.
  • The following are not required to apply:
  • Knowledge of Unreal Engine architecture.
  • Understanding of multiplayer network design and client-server sync for game state and quests.
  • Experience shipping AAA games on a bespoke or custom narrative or quest toolset.
  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine UI tools or editor scripting for custom content tools.
