You will help shape how financial risk is analysed. The team builds and runs the core platform for prime services risk and business intelligence.
The platform is the analytics engine the firm uses to manage risk, serve clients and make data-based decisions in a complicated, quickly moving market.
The global team builds compute-heavy systems that assess clients' risk profiles, covering distributed systems, real-time data processing and analytics at scale.
This is a lead Java engineer role in applications development, in the technology group. You will write code, set technical direction and mentor engineers, and be accountable for delivering reliable, scalable solutions.
Responsibilities
You will take part in the team's core technical decisions and in how its work is delivered.
Design, build and own end-to-end services in Java and Spring that are functional, resilient, fast and scalable.
Guide architecture discussions, lead sub-teams on complex projects, and mentor junior engineers through code reviews and knowledge sharing.
Build high-throughput, low-latency systems: tune applications, model data efficiently in Microsoft SQL Server, and add caching such as Redis where it helps.
Build and maintain Kafka-based data pipelines that feed the real-time analytics engine on Apache Pinot, so business users get insights immediately.
Improve CI/CD pipelines using internal platforms and Git, and deploy and run applications on OpenShift.
Connect many upstream data sources and downstream consumers, and work with project managers, business analysts and senior stakeholders to turn requirements into sound technical designs.
Own the full application lifecycle, including production support. Use your growing knowledge of margin methodology and risk analytics to diagnose and fix production issues.
Requirements
8+ years of professional experience building and shipping large, distributed backend systems.
Deep hands-on knowledge of modern Java (21 or later) and Spring, including Spring Boot and Spring Security.
Strong SQL and relational database skills, especially Microsoft SQL Server, with a record of writing optimised queries and designing efficient schemas.
Proven work with message-driven systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar.
A track record of leading technical initiatives, making architecture decisions and mentoring engineers, showing you multiply your team's impact.
Solid CI/CD and Git experience with tools such as Jenkins or Tekton.
Experience with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift) is essential.
Excellent verbal and written communication, including explaining complex technical ideas to technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred: a track record of AI-driven development.
Preferred: experience with Angular or React user interfaces.
Preferred: experience in finance, or a strong interest in it, especially prime finance, counterparty risk or market risk.
Preferred: an advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in computer science, engineering, mathematics or a related quantitative field.
Preferred: hands-on experience with Apache Pinot or other OLAP datastores.
Preferred: proficiency in Unix/Linux environments and shell scripting.
