Description

The company is the company's Power Conversion business in Rugby. It supplies electrification systems, including motors, power electronics, electrical drives and control technologies, to energy, marine and industrial customers worldwide.

This is a senior individual contributor role owning control application software for megawatt-scale electric drives used on naval vessels, industrial processes and energy systems. The work runs from specification and design through to commissioning support on site.

Relocation assistance is provided.

Responsibilities

  • Take a control application software project through specification, design, coding, validation and maintenance for MW (megawatt)-scale power electronic drive systems, meeting performance, reliability and international standards.
  • Lead validation and integration work, testing software on HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) rigs and laboratory test drives, then integrating it into larger systems and confirming end-to-end function.
  • Write software that interfaces with peripheral equipment and work closely with hardware, systems and commissioning engineers.
  • Travel to customer sites to support equipment commissioning and validation, typically a few times a year, for trips lasting from a few days to two weeks.
  • Develop and apply engineering standards and design practices, keeping work compliant with relevant health and safety regulations and international standards.

Requirements

  • You have substantial experience as a software engineer in industrial drive control, with a record of delivering robust, well-documented control application software for complex power electronic systems.
  • You have a degree in electrical engineering, electronics, software engineering or a closely related field. A formal qualification is advantageous, but total experience and professional achievement in industrial software engineering matter most.
  • You understand electrical machines, electrical drives and converter topologies, including AC/DC (Alternating Current/Direct Current), DC/AC and DC-to-DC converter systems.
  • You have proven experience writing control application software for VSD (Variable Speed Drive) systems, including current source and voltage source drives, and machine control for induction, synchronous and permanent magnet machines.
  • You can turn high-level design requirements into efficient, robust software and write clear technical documentation.
  • You are eligible to obtain UK SC (Security Check) clearance.
  • You have an unrestricted right to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Nice to have: experience writing PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) application software.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent modelling and simulation tools.
  • Nice to have: hands-on experience using HIL rigs for software testing and validation.

Conditions

Based at the Rugby site with flexible and hybrid working arrangements, open to discussion on what suits you.

Equal opportunity employer.

Benefits

  • Employer pension contribution, not subject to individual contribution.
  • Private health insurance, income protection and life assurance.
  • 26 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Flexible benefits to build a package around your personal needs.
  • Ongoing investment in professional development and career progression within a global organisation.
