Description

This is an existing opening, and the company welcomes applications from all interested candidates.

The company works across edge to cloud, helping customers connect, protect and analyze their data and applications so they can act on what they learn.

The role is in the Engineering function at job level TCP04, based in Canada.

You will analyze, design, write, debug and modify software for end-user programs that run on local, networked and internet-based platforms, and you will write the related procedures and installation and maintenance documentation.

You will solve common and sometimes complex technical problems, suggest alternatives when needed, and work out the best approach with others while using your own judgment.

You may interact with users to define system requirements and the changes they need.

This role is hybrid, with an average of 2 days per week in a company office.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a project team of software applications engineers and internal and outsourced development partners to deliver reliable, cost-effective, high-quality solutions for your assigned portion of an application or subsystem.
  • Represent the software applications engineering team across every phase of larger, more complex development projects.
  • Design enhancements, updates and code changes for parts and subsystems of end-user applications that run on local, networked and internet-based platforms.
  • Study designs and decide which coding, programming and integration work is needed, based on the overall objectives and the product or solution architecture.
  • Write and run full test plans, protocols and documentation for your assigned part of an application, then find, debug and fix issues in the code and in its integration with the wider architecture.
  • Keep management, internal teams and outsourced partners informed on design status, project progress and issue resolution.
  • Guide and mentor less experienced staff members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or an equivalent field.
  • 8+ years of software development experience.
  • Strong experience with software design tools and languages, including proficiency in C, and with embedded coding models.
  • Linux kernel experience and networking knowledge are an asset.
  • Strong independent initiative, with the habit of asking questions early and solving problems on your own.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience designing software applications that run on multiple platform types.
  • Solid knowledge of software testing methods, including writing and running test plans, debugging, and writing test scripts and tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain architectures and design proposals and to negotiate options with managers.

Conditions

The expected base salary for this role in Ontario, Canada is CAD 135,500 to 185,500 per year.

The actual offer may fall outside this range depending on location, work experience, education, training or skill level.
