Description

The company runs clinical trials in more than 100 countries, spanning laboratory, digital and decentralized trial services, and is working on new frameworks for clinical research.

This role sits in the laboratory services team, where scientists and therapeutic experts work to improve patient health through accuracy and quality.

The lab support engineer analyses, maintains and supports new and existing laboratory instruments across several sites, working with staff from different departments.

You will define requirements, help validate and qualify instruments, train staff, work with vendors on demonstrations of emerging technologies, and support new technologies from introduction onward.

The company has more than 100,000 colleagues who share four values: integrity, innovation, intensity and involvement.

Responsibilities

  • Run unit system tests such as IQ, OQ and calibration, plus PQ where needed, and carry out validation testing.
  • Write detailed system specifications from user requirements so vendors can set up demonstration units.
  • Build instrument validation protocols so new methods can move into routine analysis.
  • Write standard operating procedures and test procedures for new technologies, and performance qualification procedures for existing ones.
  • Produce system documents, including requirements, specifications, test plans and user manuals.
  • Work with operations staff on instrument deployment, oversee installation of new equipment and train end users on new systems.
  • Troubleshoot existing instruments and train incoming staff to do the same.
  • Review lab support records against SOPs for completeness and accuracy, and report your findings.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or an equivalent formal academic or vocational qualification.
  • Experience that gives you the knowledge, skills and abilities for the role, comparable to 8+ years.
  • A combination of education, training and directly related experience may be accepted in place of part of the requirements.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory equipment and core troubleshooting methods.
  • Knowledge of mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography, relational databases, and instrument operation and data reduction.
  • Working knowledge of systems used at PPD or across the CRO and pharmaceutical industry.
  • A client-focused approach with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to handle several tasks at once.
  • The ability to train others and to work well in a collaborative team.

Conditions

Benefits
