Description

You will join the Computing Platforms and Multisystems HW/SW Integration group, part of the newly formed Highly Integrated Systems domain in the Aircraft Systems Centre of Competence.

The domain covers multisystem and IMA design and airborne computing platforms, pooling expertise to drive architecture reuse, strategic alignment and economies of scale across the centre.

The TADYS2 subgroup standardises embedded software and computing platforms.

The role supports the centre's computing platform strategy and offers a strong learning path in a highly regulated, technically advanced aerospace environment.

Responsibilities

  • Help write and maintain software requirements specifications for onboard safety-critical computers.
  • Support verification and validation work under RTCA DO-178C, up to DAL-A.
  • Help integrate software platform architectures, including partitioning, scheduling, resource allocation, and third-party application and low-level software such as RTOS BSPs, drivers and middleware.
  • Help build and maintain common APIs and standard access to platform support software (RTOS, BSP, low-level I/O and middleware) for several design and development offices.
  • Contribute to new embeddable capabilities, such as secure mathematical functions, file system services and logging services.
  • Help prepare the documentation and evidence needed to show DO-178C compliance for platform software certification.
  • Assist with technical benchmarking, rapid prototyping on reference boards, and board bring-up of new target platforms.

Requirements

  • Solid understanding of C for real-time embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with GNU toolchains and compilers, such as GCC and Clang/LLVM.
  • Foundational knowledge of ARM, PowerPC or x86 architectures, including MMUs, caches and memory hierarchies.
  • Basic knowledge of avionics data buses (for example ARINC-429, CAN or Ethernet) and digital networks.
  • Familiarity with low-speed peripherals (UART, SPI, I2C) and a basic understanding of DMA.
  • Academic or internship experience with safety-critical RTOS and the ARINC-653 specification, or strong theoretical knowledge of them.
  • Basic awareness of RTCA DO-178C processes.
  • Ability to use Python for basic automation and understanding of JSON or XML data formats.
  • Good command of English, B2 level or higher, for technical documentation and team work.
  • Awareness of potential compliance risks and a commitment to acting with integrity.
  • Strong desire to learn and grow in a complex technical environment.
  • Attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to follow technical instructions and work well in a team.
  • Proactive approach to learning new technologies and standards.
  • Additional valuable skill: experience with embedded Linux.
  • Additional valuable skill: familiarity with modelling tools such as UML and SysML.
  • Additional valuable skill: exposure to static analysis and/or structural code coverage tools.
  • Additional valuable skill: experience working in Agile teams using Jira and Confluence.
