Description

The company runs a hybrid high-performance computing platform with hundreds of on-premises servers and cloud resources in Microsoft Azure, supporting a trading floor.

The role is a 100% position for a Java engineer who will help maintain, optimise and scale this environment as it grows.

Responsibilities

  • Keep the Java-based cluster scheduling and control systems up to date and maintainable.
  • Ensure the HPC resources stay highly available and reliable, as they are mission-critical.
  • Maintain and improve the monitoring systems covering infrastructure and client job submissions.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to balance resource allocation against business needs.
  • Troubleshoot and tune performance across on-premises and Azure-supported environments.
  • Ensure the platform meets banking regulatory requirements.
  • Build a deep understanding of a large existing codebase and propose improvements to it.
  • Handle frequent shifts in priority and context switching in a fast-moving setting.

Requirements

  • Strong Java skills, covering both core and enterprise-level development.
  • Experience with distributed systems and distributed execution engines.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases, ActiveMQ messaging, legacy front-end web technologies and Python for APIs and tooling.
  • Familiarity with the Azure Portal, the Azure SDK for Java and Red Hat Linux.
  • Understanding of banking systems and the regulations that apply to them.
  • Fluent English. German is a plus.
  • Good code review habits and a strong focus on code quality.
  • Able to drive technical changes through to completion, following processes in a structured way.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively in an agile team, with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Able to work with minimal direction and to communicate clearly.
  • Optional: experience with Scala, C++, Kubernetes or multithreaded Java development, which is a bonus skill.

Conditions

The position is 100%, in a hybrid environment with a link to the trading floor infrastructure.
