Internship - Software and Data Engineer (for 12 months in Rotkreuz)

Description

The team at the company Diagnostics in Rotkreuz, Switzerland, uses data, digital products and AI to solve operational problems. This is a 12-month internship with a hybrid work model, covering the full solution lifecycle from identifying a problem to prototyping and rollout.

The internship suits people with a background in Data Engineering or in Data Analytics and Science. Your tasks will be shaped around your strengths and the needs of the project. You do not need experience with every listed technology.

Responsibilities

• Work with business and process experts to understand operational problems, find opportunities, turn them into clear requirements and define what success looks like.
• Build dashboards, analytical applications and lightweight web apps with Python, R or TypeScript, and React or FastAPI where they fit.
• Build and refine reliable data pipelines and transformations using SQL, Airflow and dbt.
• Help improve automation, DevOps and CI/CD, including testing, deployment and maintainable workflows.
• Support solution concepts, prototypes and feasibility studies alongside experienced colleagues and stakeholders.
• Help maintain data governance, data quality and digital engineering standards so solutions are reliable and compliant.
• Explain technical work and findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences through documents, demos and presentations.
• Work with Product Care data from supply, quality and engineering to improve data availability and support better operational decisions.

Requirements

• Be currently enrolled in a Master's degree, or have finished a Bachelor's degree within the 12 months before the start date. A degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence or a related field is preferred.
• Have hands-on experience with at least one programming language such as Python, TypeScript or R, plus basic SQL and data handling skills.
• Have built an application, analytical solution or substantial software project through study, work or personal projects.
• Communicate clearly and speak fluent English. German is a plus.
• Solve problems well, think analytically, work independently, learn quickly and collaborate with others.
• Understanding of basic software design principles and interest in modern software engineering and AI is an asset.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD or automated testing is preferred, as is exposure to React, FastAPI, dbt or Airflow. Experience with AI agents, data visualisation or building data products is a plus.
• Start date is preferably January 2027 for 12 months, or as agreed. Flexible workload from 80% to 100% full-time equivalent can be discussed.
• The internship cannot be combined with a university thesis.

• Non-EU/EFTA citizens must attach a university confirmation that a mandatory internship is part of their studies and that they stay continuously enrolled for the full internship.
