The ZEISS Innovation Hub at KIT brings together students, researchers and industry professionals on application-oriented projects in AI, computer vision and machine learning.

Responsibilities

• Build AI solutions for real vision tasks, including agricultural use cases, covering data collection, simulated data generation, model development and deployment to target devices.
• Work across the whole ML pipeline, from vision foundation models and data preparation to quantization-aware training, edge deployment and performance evaluation.
• Set up an efficient, reproducible workflow for applied machine learning work.
• Help prepare samples and collect data in the lab, so the team keeps full ownership of its data.
• Define quantitative measures for the quality of preprocessing and use them to guide relabeling.
• Curate, structure and version datasets so experiments can be reproduced.
• Build preprocessing pipelines for AI and ML workflows.
• Create and assess simulated or synthetic data.
• Run hyperparameter and model studies in an environment where every step is traceable.
• Automate tests on embedded devices and improve their accuracy and speed.

Requirements

• Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's programme in computer science, mathematics, physics, AI or a related field.
• Strong Python and PyTorch programming skills.
• Solid grasp of software development principles.
• Basic knowledge of preprocessing steps for computer vision and vision foundation models.
• Understanding of AI and ML concepts such as supervised learning and deep learning architectures is a plus.
• Experience with edge-device deployment and model quantization is a plus.
• Creative, pragmatic and self-driven, with strong analytical skills.
• Able to work alone and as part of a team.
• Clear communication in English or German.
• Enthusiasm for new technologies and a drive to contribute to interdisciplinary projects.
