Description

The company supplies equipment, systems, digital solutions and value-added services for freight and transit rail, drawing on more than 150 years of experience and about 30,000 employees worldwide.

This role is the go-to expert for managing releases and configurations across integrated Digital Intelligence solutions made up of several systems.

You will set up and keep current the processes, controls and technical baselines covering software, specifications, interfaces, requirements and deployment artifacts.

You work on your own initiative and lead through influence, partnering with Product Management, Program Management, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Quality, Cybersecurity, DevOps and Field Services so releases are traceable, consistent and ready to run in operation.

You will advise on release planning, configuration integrity, audit readiness and lifecycle governance while pushing ongoing process improvement across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Run and keep improving the release and configuration processes for solutions that span several products and systems.
  • Define and maintain configuration identification and baselines for software, requirements, specifications, interfaces, architecture, test assets, deployment packages and documentation.
  • Keep requirements, system versions, interface revisions, change records, verification evidence and deployed configurations traceable to one another.
  • Lead solution-level change control and release readiness reviews, assessing technical impact, dependencies, risks and deployment needs.
  • Build integrated release plans that line up schedules, dependencies, version compatibility and readiness across participating product teams.
  • Control the release and distribution of specifications, requirements, interface definitions, architecture documents, verification artifacts and release records.
  • Work with engineering, quality, cybersecurity and testing teams to confirm release candidates meet technical, quality and compliance requirements.
  • Publish and maintain release manifests, solution BOMs, compatibility matrices, configuration records and deployment documentation.
  • Carry out configuration status accounting, audit preparation and checks that released solutions match approved baselines.
  • Support deployment readiness, release sign-off, rollback planning, post-release validation and feeding field changes back into controlled baselines.
  • Investigate release, deployment and configuration problems, lead root-cause analysis and drive corrective actions.
  • Coach project teams on configuration, release, traceability and lifecycle practices, and promote automation and standard processes.
  • You may be asked to perform duties outside your function or trade, and training will be provided where needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, information systems, mathematics or a related technical field.
  • Typically 8+ years in release management, configuration management, systems engineering, DevOps, product lifecycle management or a similar technical field.
  • Hands-on experience managing software and documentation baselines across an engineering lifecycle.
  • Experience coordinating complex releases that span several products across cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Working knowledge of configuration management standards such as SAE EIA-649, ISO 10007, IEEE 828 or equivalent frameworks.
  • Experience with requirements and lifecycle tools such as IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management (DOORS Next), Polarion, Jama Connect or similar platforms.
  • Experience with source control, build and release tools such as Git, Azure DevOps, GitHub Enterprise, GitLab, Jenkins, Artifactory, Nexus or equivalent.
  • Experience with PLM, document control and service management platforms such as Teamcenter, Windchill, SharePoint or ServiceNow.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders in a matrixed setting.
  • Proven ability to drive process improvement, set best practices and lead initiatives with limited guidance.
  • Preferred: experience in transportation, industrial automation, safety-critical systems or other regulated industries.
  • Preferred: an advanced degree and/or certifications such as PMP, INCOSE CSEP, CMII, ASQ CQE, ITIL or SAFe.
