Description

The People Excellence team wants a creative, collaborative instructional designer who enjoys solving problems and improving how people learn.

You will help build eLearning courses, videos, job aids, graphics, simulations and other learning materials that close knowledge and skill gaps across business functions.

You bring solid instructional design foundations, current digital content skills, a teamwork mindset and a learner-first approach.

You will get guidance from your manager and senior colleagues, but you are expected to contribute on your own, take on more ownership of assigned work over time, and work well with subject matter experts and cross-functional partners.

The role reports to the Sr. Manager, OneHUB People Excellence and has no direct reports.

The company discovers and delivers medicines in areas such as immunology, oncology and neuroscience, and also offers Allergan Aesthetics products.

Responsibilities

  • Create engaging learning content, such as eLearning modules, videos, graphics, simulations and job aids, that follows adult learning principles and corporate learning standards.
  • Turn complicated business and process information into clear content that helps learners transfer knowledge, build skills and improve performance.
  • Manage your assigned tasks, track milestones, report status and raise risks or dependencies early.
  • Work with SMEs and business stakeholders to collect input, check content accuracy, and shape learning needs and approaches.
  • Apply instructional design best practices and design thinking to produce effective, polished solutions tied to business objectives.
  • Suggest improvements that raise learning quality, engagement and efficiency.
  • Build modern learning assets with current authoring and design tools, keeping up with trends in digital learning, media and storytelling.
  • Evaluate learning effectiveness using feedback, completion data or other basic methods, and spot areas to improve.
  • Keep the manager, SMEs and project partners informed about progress, questions, decisions and possible challenges.
  • Balance several priorities in a changing environment without losing quality or responsiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required. Degrees in learning and development, instructional design, organizational development, adult education, communications or a related field are preferred, and a master's degree is preferred.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in adult learning, instructional design, training development or a related field.
  • Experience in pharma or another highly regulated industry is preferred.
  • Solid grasp of instructional design principles and adult learning theory, applied in practical, business-focused ways.
  • Proven skill with current content tools, such as eLearning authoring, graphic design, video creation or editing, and simulation development tools.
  • Ability to build digital learning assets quickly that look good, teach well and fit the audience's needs.
  • Strong communication and teamwork with SMEs, business partners and cross-functional colleagues.
  • Good project coordination and time management, including meeting deadlines and asking for help when needed.
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving: spotting issues, asking good questions, weighing options and recommending practical fixes.
  • Curiosity about emerging learning and design trends and willingness to try new tools, formats and creative approaches.
  • Able to work onsite 3 days per week in Abbott Park and collaborate in a team setting.
