Description

The company is hiring an Infrastructure Solution Architect for its Federal Civilian Division. The role supports a large, global cloud and data center services program for the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Diplomatic Technology.

You will design and roll out infrastructure across a hybrid enterprise, supporting the department's mission and goals. The work centres on VMware and combines deep multi-platform engineering with client leadership, solution shaping, operations oversight, and mentoring others.

The company is a global technology and professional services firm with 26,000 employees in more than 50 countries. It serves civilian, defense, and intelligence agencies across the U.S. government with work in AI, cloud, cyber, and software development.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and configure local, hybrid, and cloud infrastructure, including IaaS, PaaS, virtual networks, and cloud-based AI solutions.
  • Use Infrastructure as Code, such as ARM/Bicep, Terraform, or similar tools, to standardise and automate deployments across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
  • Set the strategy for governance, tagging, RBAC, policy enforcement, cost controls, and operating standards.
  • Help engineer platform services covering converged and cloud infrastructure, data protection, monitoring, and security infrastructure.
  • Design disaster recovery strategies and run exercises for them and for Continuity of Operations Plans.
  • Support 24x7x365 cloud operations alongside the Enterprise Operations and Site Operations teams. Act as the escalation point for incident, problem, and change management under ITIL practices.
  • Design and deploy monitoring for performance, health, consumption, scaling, and anomalies. Recommend cost optimisations and right-sizing.
  • Lead cloud migrations, virtual infrastructure upgrades, workload tuning, and resource lifecycle management, drawing on vendor guidance and security frameworks.
  • Ensure cloud resources meet operational readiness, uptime, and reliability targets through automation and data analysis.
  • Design security controls and governance aligned with Zero Trust Architecture, NIST SP 800-53, the AWS Cloud Adoption Framework, AWS Foundational Security Best Practices, other industry frameworks, and customer or ATO requirements.
  • Support FedRAMP, NIST RMF and FISMA controls, other applicable security frameworks, Zero Trust adoption, and DOS cybersecurity directives.
  • Design continuous monitoring, reporting, and self-healing solutions using native tools, automation, and AI.
  • Work with DT service providers, engineering teams, and stakeholders to improve service delivery, standardise cloud practice, and streamline delivery.
  • Write documentation, runbooks, diagrams, proposals, and knowledge-transfer material for government staff and support contractors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience supporting enterprise IT systems, cloud services engineering, or hybrid cloud environments.
  • Experience in cloud engineering, hybrid clouds, IaaS, PaaS, and VMware.
  • Certification such as VCP-VCF Architect or another relevant cloud provider certification.
  • Hands-on work with VMware products such as vSphere, ESXi, and VMware Aria Operations.
  • Hands-on work with IaaS and PaaS, virtual networks, routing, local and cloud storage, compute, and identity integrations.
  • Scripting and automation with PowerShell and Python, plus monitoring and observability tools.
  • Experience with hybrid and hyperconverged computing environments and cloud security best practices.
  • Active Top Secret clearance.
  • US citizenship.
  • Nice to have: Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Nice to have: 12+ years of relevant experience supporting enterprise IT systems, cloud services engineering, or hybrid cloud environments.
