The team brings more than 200 years of combined experience in maritime and coastal infrastructure. Its clients include local authorities, private developers, defence customers, and internal teams within the company in the UK and overseas.

The team works across renewable energy, infrastructure decarbonisation, global goods movement, defence resilience, cruise ports, rehabilitation of historic structures, marinas, waterfront development, the fishing industry and ferry terminals.

The company is a global infrastructure consulting firm with over 50,000 staff. It is listed on the Fortune 500 and reported Professional Services revenue of $16.1 billion for fiscal year 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyse and supervise civil and structural works in marine and coastal settings, including building, rehabilitating and protecting port and harbour structures such as quay walls, jetties, piers, revetments, breakwaters, dolphins, fendering, linkspans and scour protection.
  • Work on projects from concept and feasibility through detailed design and construction support, making sure solutions are safe, sustainable and meet UK and international standards.
  • Apply BS, Eurocodes, PIANC, CIRIA and ICE guidance to structural design and analysis.
  • Use software such as ROBOT, GRLWEAP, WALLAP, TEDDS and PLAXIS 3D, among others.
  • Develop concept, preliminary and detailed designs for new builds and refurbishments.
  • Assess stability, bearing capacity and durability under wave, current and corrosion effects.
  • Design and specify fendering, mooring and scour protection.
  • Prepare and check technical reports, drawings, specifications and tender documents.
  • Carry out site inspections and structural condition surveys, and write the inspection reports.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, port authorities and regulators.
  • Work alongside geotechnical, hydraulic, environmental and coastal process engineers in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Give technical support during construction, review contractor submissions and answer site queries.
  • Learn to apply health and safety, environmental and CDM requirements.
  • Share knowledge and help the team improve continuously.

Requirements

  • A BEng (Hons) in civil or structural engineering with a 2:1 or higher, or an equivalent qualification, or a similar maritime engineering qualification.
  • Familiarity with British Standards and Eurocodes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
  • The right to work in the UK and the ability to obtain SC clearance with no caveats. Open to UK nationals only.
  • An MEng (Hons) in civil or structural engineering would be an advantage.
  • Ideally, a final year project in port, marine or coastal engineering, which is advantageous.
