GNC Software Engineering Intern (Summer 2027)

Description

The company is a space systems provider founded in 2021. It designs, builds, and operates low Earth orbit satellite constellations that deliver data critical to missions.

The guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) team owns all GNC work on the spacecraft, from choosing sensors and actuators to system-level pointing analysis and writing flight software.

Software interns can take a project from start to finish. That might mean performance analysis, new spacecraft operations tools, or new spacecraft functionality.

The company is a small, fast-growing startup, so interns work directly with experienced aerospace engineers, get hands-on mentorship, and can have a real effect on programs. You will work alongside a dynamic team.

Responsibilities

• Perform system-level GNC analysis to support development and on-orbit operations.
• Build or enhance a GNC software feature or capability.
• Create tools that analyze, calibrate, and operate the on-orbit GNC subsystems.
• Write, refine, and automate GNC performance and regression tests.

Requirements

• Coursework in software engineering, mechanical or aerospace engineering, applied physics, or electrical engineering with filtering and estimation.
• Programming ability in C++, Python, or both.
• Julia would count as a plus.
• Interest in spacecraft attitude estimation and control.
• Nice-to-have: previous internship or co-op experience.
• Nice-to-have: hardware and software integration or mechatronics project experience.
• Nice-to-have: experience on technical project teams, such as a rocket club, Formula SAE, or solar car team.
• Nice-to-have: experience with attitude estimation or control.

Conditions

Full-time internship, on-site in Mountain View, CA.

Runs between May and September, depending on your university schedule.

Pay: $40/hour for Bachelor's, $45/hour for Master's, and $50/hour for PhD.
