Gen AI Engineer - Python - Vice President

Description

The company is hiring a senior Gen AI Engineer to set up and put in place new or updated application systems and programs with the Technology team.

The role sits in the Technology group, within Applications Development, and leads application systems analysis and programming work.

The position is full time and based in Tampa, Florida, United States.

Responsibilities

• Work with several management teams to make sure functions fit together and meet business goals.
• Find and define system improvements needed to launch new products and improve processes.
• Solve high-impact problems and projects by studying complex business processes, system processes and industry standards in depth.
• Bring deep application programming knowledge and make sure designs follow the overall architecture blueprint.
• Use your understanding of system flow to set coding, testing, debugging and deployment standards.
• Understand how business areas such as architecture and infrastructure connect to reach company goals.
• Analyse issues in depth and come up with new solutions.
• Advise and coach mid-level developers and analysts, and assign their work as needed.
• Weigh risk in business decisions, protect the firm's reputation, clients and assets, and report control issues openly while following laws, rules and policy.
• Build and maintain scalable, efficient, high-quality Python code for generative AI applications.
• Connect GenAI APIs such as OpenAI and Gemini to create new features and products.
• Build and improve Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) systems so AI models give more relevant answers in context.
• Build and deploy reliable backend services with Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask or Django.
• Work with product managers, data scientists and engineers to define requirements and deliver solutions.
• Write thorough unit and integration tests.
• Review code from teammates and help set high standards and good practice.
• Improve application performance, scalability and security.
• Optional: Use cloud container orchestration services such as OpenShift and ECS to deploy and run applications.
• Optional: Experience with Lightspeed is a plus.
• Other job-related duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

• At least 6 years of professional software development experience, with a strong focus on Python.
• Proven hands-on work with generative AI concepts and technologies.
• Demonstrated experience with GenAI APIs such as OpenAI and Gemini.
• Solid, practical experience building Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) systems.
• Expertise in at least one modern Python web framework: FastAPI, Flask or Django.
• Good grasp of development practice, including Git, testing and CI/CD.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work alone or in a team.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Education: a bachelor's degree or university degree, or equivalent experience.
• Preferred: a master's degree.

Conditions

Full-time role based in Tampa, Florida, United States.

Salary range is $113,840.00 to $170,760.00.
