Senior Java Engineering Lead

Description

This hands-on senior backend role sits in the company's technology organization, where you will build scalable server-side systems that run critical applications.

You will design microservices, guide architecture, and lead a growing team while staying close to the code.

The team values craftsmanship, and senior engineers have real say over architecture and delivery. Your decisions will shape how the company uses current engineering practices and newer AI tools.

Responsibilities

• Create robust, scalable backend services in Java, applying current architecture patterns to hard problems.
• Write and review production code every day across each stage of development.
• Own major development projects from initial design through to delivery.
• Review code and set coding standards that raise quality across the team.
• Coach a small group of developers and share your technical knowledge and good practice.
• Assess new tools and methods, and adopt those that improve team productivity and product quality.
• Work with product managers and stakeholders on technical strategy and roadmap decisions.
• Investigate AI and machine learning tools and apply them to improve engineering practice and system design.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software development experience, with at least 3 years leading engineering teams.
• Strong hands-on Java skills for backend development.
• Deep experience building microservices with the Spring Framework and designing RESTful APIs.
• Working proficiency with MongoDB and Oracle databases.
• Experience with Apache Kafka and designing event-driven architectures.
• Solid grasp of software design patterns, architecture principles, and secure coding practices.
• Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Beneficial: a master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.

Conditions

This is a full-time position.

Primary location full-time salary range: $145,100.00 - $217,700.00.

Hybrid model: 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely.
