Description

The role sets, leads and oversees the company's target data architecture, including the shared data environment, data model and standards, so that data stays accurate, secure and easy for stakeholders to reach.

The work supports business strategy and connects the data side of the company's goals to practical plans.

Responsibilities

  • Turn company-wide goals into a target data architecture and a transition plan for reaching it.
  • Advise and share expertise with data operations, engineering and analytics teams to encourage consistent, safe and useful data use.
  • Build and maintain data architecture governance, standards and protection policies covering data models, authoritative stores and data capabilities, protecting quality, consistency and sensitive information.
  • Guide projects so they fit the target architecture, supply data solutions and track their progress.
  • Define shared, reusable data capabilities, assets, tools and technologies that link varied sources, make storage efficient and give smooth access.
  • Own the overarching data model that sets how data is structured logically and physically across databases, interfaces and reports.
  • Track regulatory standards and industry developments that could affect operations, controls and the application portfolio.
  • Select top-tier data technologies and check ongoing compliance with service level agreements and quality standards.
  • Advise senior management and functional leaders on the impact and alignment of their areas.
  • Identify and reduce risk through assessment, supporting the control and governance agenda.
  • Learn how the organisation works and keep up with business activity and strategy by working with business-aligned support areas.
  • Compare complex options in depth, draw on research and develop new solutions to problems.
  • Build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, using influence and negotiation to reach outcomes.

Requirements

  • Experience with advanced AI and ML architecture.
  • Experience with responsible AI and governance.
  • Innovation and strategic vision.
  • Highly valued, not essential: a research publication record.
  • Highly valued, not essential: industry speaking experience.
  • Highly valued, not essential: cross-industry AI implementation.
  • Vice President level expectations: help set strategy, drive requirements and recommend change, plan resources and budgets, manage policies and processes, drive continuous improvement and escalate policy breaches.
  • If you manage a team: define roles and responsibilities, plan for future needs, coach performance and contribute to pay decisions. You may also lead specialists to shape department operations, balancing short and long term goals within budgets and schedules.
  • If you manage people: show the LEAD behaviours of listening and being authentic, energising and inspiring, aligning across the enterprise, and developing others.
  • If you are an individual contributor: act as the subject matter expert in your discipline, guide technical direction, lead multi-year collaborative assignments, coach less experienced specialists and advise on long term profit, risk and strategic decisions.
  • Demonstrate the company's values of Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence and Stewardship, and its mindset to Empower, Challenge and Drive.
  • You may be assessed on critical skills such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, and job-specific technical skills.
