Description

This lead role guides systems engineering across a programme or major project, turning customer and stakeholder needs into a balanced, verifiable system that is delivered on time, within cost and to quality. You will work day to day with the Systems Engineering Manager for Functional Delivery.

You will make sure systems engineering processes, tools and governance are used across the full lifecycle, producing a technically sound, verifiable and certifiable radar system that meets the applicable standards and the agreed milestones and KPIs.

The company is an aerospace, defence and security business headquartered in Italy, with about 53,000 staff worldwide and about 8,500 in the UK across 9 sites.

Responsibilities

  • Set the technical direction for systems engineering across your assigned scope.
  • Lead model-based systems engineering (MBSE) across the GCAP integrated project team, building good practice and raising tool skills across the systems engineering team.
  • Act as the MBSE contact for the international working groups within the joint international Systems Team.
  • Support design reviews such as PDR, CDR and TRR, and the ongoing Maturity Based Reviews, making sure every required artefact is produced.
  • Keep requirements, models and verification evidence under configuration control in CAMEO, DOORS and TCU, and manage the MBSE tools and user accounts.
  • With the Chief Systems Engineer and the Systems Engineering Manager, set and track measures for systems engineering maturity, requirements stability and verification coverage.
  • Make sure project outputs meet the required quality, schedule and budget.
  • Help plan and define verification and validation work, including integration and acceptance.
  • Coordinate inputs from specialists, such as safety and security, into the main project.
  • Identify, assess and reduce technical and programme risks within the systems engineering domain.
  • Work with the Chief Systems Engineer and Systems Architects on architecture, interfaces and performance budgets.
  • Work with the software, firmware, test equipment, hardware and safety leads to keep the system definition coherent and integrated.

Requirements

  • Broad systems engineering experience across the full lifecycle.
  • Working knowledge of MBSE approaches and tools, such as SysML, Cameo and DOORS.
  • A proven record of leading system definition, requirements and verification.
  • Experience in complex, multi-disciplinary engineering environments.
  • The ability to explain complex technical issues clearly to different audiences.
  • Experience with design reviews, trade studies and technical governance.
  • Security clearance: the role needs pre-employment screening to the UK Government Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). Additional National Security Vetting (NSV) may also apply, which could include eligibility for the Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV). Guidance is available on the company's security and vetting careers page.
