Full-stack Engineer 4

Description

The team builds software for a large financial company, and this role sits at the center of a major change across the business.

You will work on problems in a collaborative, iterative setting where people build, test and ship quickly, and you will help solve real customer needs.

The company wants engineers who keep up with open source frameworks and newer technologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead a set of varied technology projects and a team of developers who have worked on distributed microservices and full-stack systems, building solutions that address the company's regulatory requirements.
• Keep up with technology trends, test and learn new tools, take part in internal and external engineering communities, and mentor other engineers.
• Work with digital product managers to deliver sturdy cloud-based solutions that give millions of Americans better tools for managing their finances.
• Work with languages and tools such as Java, Scala, Python, Go, Node.js, JavaScript and TypeScript, open source relational and NoSQL databases, Docker and Kubernetes, and a range of AWS services.
• Set technical direction across Agile teams, defining standards for design, development and operations.
• Work with architects to define service boundaries, integration patterns and reusable frameworks.
• Find areas to improve, refactor where needed, and help reduce technical debt and improve system performance.
• Shape long-term technology strategy by assessing new tools and practices, in an environment where teams build and then own what they ship.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related quantitative field such as statistics, economics, operations research, analytics, mathematics or engineering.
• At least 4 years of professional software engineering experience. Internships do not count.
• At least 2 years of experience with a public cloud platform (AWS, GCP or Azure), cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
• Optional: a master's degree in computer science or a related field.
• Optional: 7+ years of coding in more than two of Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C and Scala.
• Optional: 3+ years working with databases and database management systems.
• Optional: 3+ years with AWS, GCP, Azure, or cloud-based productivity tools or virtualization technologies.
• Optional: 4+ years contributing to open source frameworks.
• Optional: 3+ years with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
• Optional: 4+ years building synchronous and asynchronous APIs.
• Optional: 3+ years with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code and automated testing frameworks.
• Optional: 3+ years using Git-based version control (e.g., Git, GitHub, Bitbucket).
• Optional: 3+ years troubleshooting technical issues in cloud environments.
• Optional: experience with modern AI coding tools and IDE copilots.
• Optional: 1+ year mentoring engineers and supporting their professional growth on technical teams.
• Optional: 1+ year using observability to find and fix performance bottlenecks in distributed systems.
• Optional: experience using interactive AI tools for productivity beyond basic code completion.
• Optional: experience leading cross-functional engineering work or large technical initiatives.
• Optional: experience setting and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams.

Conditions

Base salary in McLean, VA is $197,300 to $225,100 per year for full-time work. Part-time pay is prorated to the agreed hours. Pay in other locations follows that location's range, and the exact offered salary appears in the offer letter.

The role may earn performance-based incentive pay, which can include cash bonuses and or long-term incentives. These may be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
