Description

The team builds mission-critical software for a U.S. Intelligence Community customer, and this senior role covers the whole stack, from setting architecture to debugging down to the kernel.

The posting is filed under the Software Engineering job family for a Senior Software Developer.

The company is a global technology and professional services firm with 26,000 staff in 50+ countries, serving U.S. government, defense and intelligence agencies with work in AI, cloud, cyber and software development.

The team values reliability and maintainability above all, and the company invests in staff growth alongside the mission.

Responsibilities

  • Design complete end-to-end systems and services, deciding on structure, interfaces and technology, and weighing trade-offs against mission needs and technical limits.
  • Research, design, build and change enterprise software across every stage of the software development lifecycle.
  • Produce architecture diagrams, design documents and technical patterns that guide other engineers and keep systems scalable and maintainable over time.
  • Write production-grade code, mainly in Go and Rust, with shell/Bash for automation and tooling, and build automated tests that keep systems reliable.
  • Work on front-end code in TypeScript and React when the work requires it.
  • Use AI-assisted and agentic coding tools, such as Claude Code and OpenAI Codex, to analyse codebases, troubleshoot production systems and solve problems faster, and judge when a person must review the output.
  • Package and build containerized applications, deploy them into orchestrated GitOps environments, and plan, run and monitor releases, owning the reliability of what you ship.
  • Create internal tools, command-line utilities and APIs that make development, building and deployment faster.
  • Trace problems through application code, the container runtime, the operating system and the kernel, then fix them in distributed, mission-critical systems.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of professional software development experience.
  • Technical training, certifications, or a relevant degree.
  • Systems-level programming in Go and/or Rust.
  • Strong Linux and shell/Bash skills, including a working understanding of the kernel.
  • Experience designing and architecting software and systems.
  • Experience building secure, highly available distributed systems.
  • Experience with containerized development, such as Docker or OCI.
  • Experience writing automated tests and using CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Hands-on use of AI-assisted or agentic coding tools.
  • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance with polygraph. The company will sponsor the selected candidate if they do not already hold the required clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Ability to architect systems and make sound technical trade-offs.
  • Strong debugging skills in complex, distributed environments.
  • Comfortable working across the full stack, including OS and kernel internals.
  • Skilled at troubleshooting, hardening and improving system reliability.
  • Able to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Willingness to adopt AI tools and fold them into daily engineering work.
  • Preferred: Kubernetes, which is highly desired, and GitOps-based delivery with Flux or Argo CD.
  • Preferred: systems-level experience with C or C++.
  • Preferred: TypeScript and React UI development.
  • Preferred: Docker Compose or similar container tooling.
  • Preferred: Renovate.
  • Preferred: monitoring, alerting and debugging large-scale distributed systems.
  • Preferred: building tools and APIs.
  • Preferred: open-source contribution or maintenance.
