Full Stack Engineer 4 (AI Operations/MLX Group)

You will write full-stack software with open source frameworks and newer technologies. The role is central to a large transformation across the company.

Responsibilities

• Lead several technology projects and a group of developers experienced in distributed microservices and full-stack systems, building solutions that address the company's regulatory obligations.
• Keep up with technology trends, try and learn new tools, take part in internal and external tech communities, and mentor engineers.
• Work with digital product managers to build resilient cloud solutions that create strong customer experiences and help millions of Americans gain financial control.
• Build with Java, Scala, Python, Go, Node.js, JavaScript and TypeScript, open source relational and NoSQL databases, container orchestration with Docker and Kubernetes, and a range of AWS services.
• Set technical direction for Agile teams by defining standards for design, development and operations.
• Work with architects on service boundaries, integration patterns and reusable frameworks.
• Spot weak areas, refactor where needed, and help reduce technical debt and improve system performance.
• Shape long-term technology strategy by assessing emerging tools and practices, in a team where you build it and you own it.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related quantitative field such as statistics, economics, operations research, analytics, mathematics or engineering.
• At least 4 years of software engineering experience. Internships do not count.
• At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
• Preferred: Master's degree in computer science or a related field.
• Preferred: 7+ years coding in more than two of: Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C, Scala.
• Preferred: 3+ years working with databases and database management systems.
• Preferred: 3+ years with AWS, GCP, Azure, cloud-based productivity tools or virtualization technologies.
• Preferred: 4+ years contributing to open source frameworks.
• Preferred: 3+ years with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
• Preferred: 4+ years building synchronous and asynchronous APIs.
• Preferred: 3+ years with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code and automated testing frameworks.
• Preferred: 3+ years using Git-based version control such as Git, GitHub or Bitbucket.
• Preferred: 3+ years troubleshooting technical issues in cloud environments.
• Preferred: Experience with modern AI-based coding tools and IDE copilots.
• Preferred: 1+ year mentoring engineers and supporting professional development on technical teams.
• Preferred: 1+ year using observability to find and fix performance bottlenecks in distributed systems.
• Preferred: Experience with interactive AI tools that boost productivity beyond basic code completion.
• Preferred: Experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts or large-scale technical initiatives.
• Preferred: Experience setting and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams.

Full-time annual base salary ranges by location are: Cambridge, MA: $197,300 - $225,100; McLean, VA: $197,300 - $225,100; New York, NY: $215,200 - $245,600, for Full-stack Engineer 4.

These ranges apply only to work performed in those locations and reflect the company's pay at the time of posting. Part-time pay is prorated to the agreed hours.

Candidates hired elsewhere will receive the pay range for their location, and the exact salary will appear in the offer letter.
