The company makes secure connections simple by building software that lets people and their devices reach each other securely, wherever they are. Hobbyists and large corporations alike, and teams of any size, use it daily to protect networks and share access to internal tools.
Founded in 2019 and fully distributed, the company is backed by Accel, CRV, Insight, Heavybit, and Uncork Capital. Its aim is an internet that is easy, sensible, and safe, as it once was.
This is a full-time Frontend Engineer role on a growing team. The company is fully remote and builds a highly technical product, so you will need to move between product and platform engineering.
The work sits where user experience, browser security, developer tooling, and internal platform design meet. You will think strategically, make practical architecture decisions, work with engineering, design, growth, and infrastructure, and help other teams build with confidence.
Research often suggests people from historically marginalized groups apply only when they meet 100% of the qualifications. If this role interests you, please apply anyway.
Responsibilities
Set the frontend architecture for the company's next-generation web console, covering application structure, routing, state boundaries, shared abstractions, and long-term maintainability
Design and maintain cross-origin authentication and session infrastructure between the console and other services, including auth flows, CORS policies, CSRF protection, cookie and session strategies, and support for several deployment environments
Build and run a frontend serving platform that hosts multiple company products within one development workflow
Create shared infrastructure, conventions, and design patterns that bring separate product experiences together into one console
Build frontend patterns, tooling, and abstractions so engineers outside frontend can produce accessible, production-quality UI safely and quickly
Work closely with Product Design to turn complex infrastructure and identity concepts into intuitive user experiences
Work with Growth, Design, Product, and other engineering teams on experiments and iteration, including A/B tests, analytics instrumentation, and feature rollouts
Define and improve frontend testing across the console, including integration tests, end-to-end coverage, local developer ergonomics, and abstractions that reduce testing complexity for product teams
Work with infrastructure and engineering tooling teams on local development, build pipelines, preview deployments, release ergonomics, and operational reliability
Raise frontend engineering standards across the company through technical leadership, code reviews, mentoring, and clear platform guardrails
Take part in the on-call rotation every x weeks to triage and mitigate incidents
Requirements
Experience building and running production React applications at scale
Solid grasp of web platform fundamentals, including HTTP semantics, browser security boundaries, authentication flows, cookies, storage, CORS, and CSRF
Experience building internal platforms, frameworks, or shared libraries that let other teams ship products with strong guardrails
Experience steering a unified console or platform vision across separate frontend codebases
Good judgment on frontend architecture, knowing when to standardize, when to abstract, and how to keep systems understandable as they grow
Experience designing scalable frontend testing strategies that build confidence while hiding incidental complexity from product engineers
Comfort working across disciplines, especially with design, growth, infrastructure, and developer tooling
Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining tradeoffs and influencing technical direction across teams
High ownership and autonomy, with the ability to spot important problems and drive them forward through ambiguity
Experience designing frontend codebases and tooling for AI-assisted development, with conventions and abstractions that help LLM-based agents produce correct, consistent UI in fewer iterations
Experience with design systems, component libraries, and linking design tooling to production UI workflows
Experience with feature flagging, analytics, experimentation systems, and progressive delivery patterns
Experience on identity, admin, B2B SaaS, or security-sensitive product surfaces
