Forward Deployed Solution Engineer – Applied AI FDE

Description

The Applied AI Forward Deployed Engineering team works with the company's largest strategic customers on enterprise AI. The team finds high-value opportunities, speeds up business results, and builds reusable AI-native solutions for the Now AI Platform.

The team embeds in customers' real environments, builds scalable AI solutions for their hardest problems, and turns each win into patterns other projects can reuse across the Now Platform and wider enterprise market.

Enterprises now expect AI projects to produce measurable business value, not just potential. That means turning advanced LLM capabilities into software that is resilient, secure, and scalable.

The role is a Forward Deployed Software Engineer (FDSE). You own the technical direction of each build, from backend services and LLM pipelines to front-end integrations. You work with customers on site to design and deliver production-ready solutions in agile sprints. Your code becomes the reference implementation for scalable GenAI in the enterprise, and you document patterns, improve internal tooling, and help ship systems that hold up in production across industries.

Responsibilities

• Build LLM-enabled applications that are ready for customers, covering backend logic, data orchestration, and front-end UI.
• Work on site beside customers to adapt, deploy, and refine solutions in live environments.
• Turn reusable parts such as libraries, prompts, and scaffolds into assets that speed up future projects.
• Send feedback from the field to platform and product teams to improve the developer experience.
• Deliver production-ready solutions through end-to-end agile sprints.
• Work across APIs, orchestration pipelines, vector databases, LLM frameworks, and UI components.
• Integrate with legacy systems, handle unclear requirements, and ship quickly and safely.
• Build scaffolds, SDKs, and documentation so successful approaches can scale across customers.
• Feed field-tested insights and extensible code into product strategy.

Requirements

• You are a systems-minded AI-native engineer who ships working software and owns the full stack, with equal interest in clean APIs, usable UIs, and scalable orchestration pipelines.
• You balance creativity with pragmatism and think about product value like a CTO would.
• You work closely with customer teams, find root causes, and design AI-powered workflows that run at scale. You debug systems, context, and customer problems, not only code.
• Experience using or critically assessing AI in work processes, decisions, or problem solving. This can include AI-powered tools, workflow automation, analysis of AI-driven insights, or the impact of AI on a function or industry.
• At least 10 years of software engineering, including at least 2 years building systems in customer-facing or embedded roles.
• You have shown you can design and implement AI-native software in production.
• Strong backend skills in Python, Node.js, or Java, frontend skills in React or Angular, and API experience with REST or GraphQL.
• Familiarity with LangChain, Semantic Kernel, prompt chaining, vector search, and context management.
• Skilled at debugging distributed systems, reducing latency, and setting up monitoring.
• Able to contribute to shared SDKs and tools that speed up engineering across the organization.
• Prioritize user value, iterate on MVPs, and plan for long-term scale.
• Experience deploying on AWS, Azure, or GCP using CI/CD, containers, and infrastructure as code.
• Able to travel up to 30% to work onsite with customers.
• Preferred: experience integrating AI into SaaS platforms such as the company or Salesforce.
• Preferred: track record of production deployments in secure, regulated enterprise environments.
• Preferred: contributions to developer experience tooling, frameworks, or reusable AI scaffolds.

Conditions

Base pay for this location is $201,300 to $352,300, plus equity where applicable, variable or incentive pay, and benefits. Sales roles generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive structure. The base pay shown is a guideline, and actual total pay varies with qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location. Pay depends on the geographic location of the role and may change with it.

Work personas are flexible, remote, or required in office, and are assigned based on the nature of the work and the assigned location. The company may check the distance between your primary residence and the nearest office with a third-party service to determine eligibility.
