Fires Sr. Systems Engineer - Ottawa

Description

This is a senior systems engineering role in enterprise IT, filed as a pipeline requisition in the IT Infrastructure and Operations job family.

You will work alongside driven, resourceful colleagues on AFATDS, the system used by Canadian Army artillery units.

Responsibilities

• Set up, configure, test and keep current the operating systems, application software and management tools for AFATDS.
• Start up, configure and troubleshoot software interfaces.
• Watch over all installed systems, networks and infrastructure to keep performance at its best.
• Keep systems, networks and infrastructure highly available, reliable and resilient.
• Measure application performance, find bottlenecks, propose fixes and work with developers to put them in place.
• Look after system security, backups and redundancy.
• Help design and improve information and operational support systems when needed.
• Write technical and operational reports every week and every two weeks.
• Coach and mentor artillery operators on the job.
• Help Canadian Army artillery units plan and run simulated and live-fire exercises at unit and formation level.
• Apply deep knowledge of AFATDS hardware, components and procedures.
• Support the Joint Fires Modernization Project Management Office with system acceptance, technical testing, management of interdependent interfaces for in-service and future systems, and on-site and remote support of field units rolling out AFATDS.

Requirements

• You have 5+ years of related experience.
• You hold a BA or BS degree.
• You hold an active Secret clearance.
• You hold CompTIA Security+ CE certification.
• You are a US citizen.
• You hold a valid US passport with at least 2 years remaining.
• You have experience with complex systems, systems design and systems development.
• You can administer Windows 10 or later systems.
• You can administer Windows Server 2012 or later.
• You understand basic networking fundamentals.
• You have worked with VMware vSphere 6.5.
• You have expert-level knowledge of AFATDS operations, hardware and software components.
• You are familiar with the Joint Automated Deep Operations Coordination System (JADOCS), Joint Targeting Integrated Command and Coordination Suite (JTIC2S), Joint Targeting Toolbox (JTT), Joint Targeting Toolbox Capability Package (JTT-CP), Modernized Integrated Database (MIDB), Machine-Assisted Analytic Rapid-Repository System (MARS) and Global Command and Control System, Joint (GCCS-J).
• Prior military experience is highly desirable.

Conditions

The role is onsite, 40 hours per week.

Travel is less than 10% of the time.

No public trust or other clearance is required.

The likely salary is $107,744 to $126,500. This is not a guarantee. Pay is set by experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements, and may fall outside this range.

For international positions, total pay varies by tax, social security, immigration status and location, and may include allowances, premium uplifts and/or relocation or transportation benefits above the base range.
