Engineering Manager, Commerce Systems

Description

The company is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses, used by millions of companies from large enterprises to early-stage startups to accept payments, grow revenue and open new business lines.

Commerce Systems is the central entry point for the company teams to monetize products in global markets. The team builds platforms and services that define and manage pricing, calculate and collect the company's revenue, and help the company and its users understand and manage revenue and costs. Its work covers customer-facing experiences, internal platforms and data pipelines, serving Accounting, Finance, Strategy, Sales and Product.

The team is a core engine behind several of the company's largest bets, from shipping products faster to changing its commercial strategy.

Responsibilities

• Lead an engineering team within Commerce Systems and set its strategy and priorities.
• Balance work across new product monetization, self-service and developer experience, and technical foundations and operational excellence.
• Make the billing platform more self-serve so product teams can move faster across the company's product suite.
• Launch new pricing and monetization capabilities for product and sales teams.
• Keep billing outcomes rigorous, accurate and predictable.
• Help finance, strategy and accounting understand the company's business performance in depth.
• Work with leaders in product, engineering, sales and back-office functions, including finance, strategy, accounting, tax and compliance, to shape company strategy.
• Lead engineering and design processes, and coach, mentor and support your team as it builds new solutions.
• Build close working relationships with other leaders and organizations to align on goals and outcomes.
• Grow a strong bench of future leaders by supporting team growth and hiring internally and externally.

Requirements

• 10+ years of engineering experience, including at least 4 years in management.
• Led high-complexity teams of 8+ engineers working in parallel on several high-impact areas.
• Worked well in cross-functional settings, showing rigorous thinking and sound decisions.
• Recruited, mentored and built high-performing teams in an inclusive way that draws diverse talent and helps people grow.
• Work independently with a high degree of ownership, driving projects that support the organization's overall success.
• Worked effectively with partners in a geographically distributed organization, communicating clearly and collaborating across time zones to stay aligned.
• Communicate exceptionally well in writing and speaking, explaining technical concepts clearly and persuasively to colleagues and stakeholders.
• Nice to have: experience building or improving platforms for other developers, designed for self-service and extensibility.
• Nice to have: background in payments, billing or other financial technology. Not essential.
