Description

The company is a financial infrastructure platform that lets businesses accept payments, grow revenue and open new business opportunities. Millions of companies use it, from the largest enterprises to early-stage startups.

The company's engineering teams build the business logic behind payments, marketplaces, fraud detection, internet business formation and developer-friendly APIs. Engineering managers lead teams that build and expand APIs, services and experiences, and work with partners to enter new markets and add vertical capabilities.

Terminal extends merchants' online presence into physical locations, aiming to make in-person payments as simple as the company's online payment API. It supports unified commerce, letting businesses combine in-person and online experiences for retail stores, pop-ups and mobile point-of-sale at events.

The Enterprise team within Terminal helps the largest, most influential merchants scale globally. Its work covers enterprise features such as in-person refunds, loyalty and DCC, enterprise point-of-sale integrations, and vertical payment methods including SNAP EBT, Link, merchant-specific QR payments, private-label credit cards, gift cards and fleet fuel cards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead launches and scaling of merchant-specific features and shared tooling for Terminal's largest merchants, working with Go-to-Market, Legal, Design and Product.
  • Work with company leaders to shape and move forward the vision for unified commerce, combining in-person and online payments.
  • Set your team's roadmap and priorities, and manage dependencies across the company.
  • Help engineers reach a high bar for technical quality and stability.
  • Create processes that help your team work well and collaborate with the rest of the company.
  • Hire strong engineers with the Recruiting team, and grow current engineers' careers.
  • Build a solid understanding of core APIs and shape their design for card-present payments and a unified commerce platform.
  • Guide your team in building and scaling payment method integrations, core abstractions, gift card support and point-of-sale connectors for large enterprises.
  • Deliver key enterprise features, including DCC and in-person refunds.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirements: 5+ years of engineering leadership across mobile, API and backend teams, with proven broad technical leadership.
  • Experience building teams that solve hard technical problems.
  • Understanding of how AI affects the field, and a strong product sense for turning new capabilities into clear value for customers and the business.
  • Experience working in collaborative settings with many stakeholders and subject-matter experts.
  • Experience building and running scalable, resilient, observable systems across the stack.
  • Strong listening skills, the ability to absorb the best ideas across the organization and set a vision people want to back.
  • The ability to see the company's product from the viewpoint of merchants and users.
  • Experience leading large technical projects with internal and external dependencies that affect several teams.
  • Preferred (a bonus, not required): experience building or managing teams that built in-person checkout or payment-method integrations.
  • Preferred (a bonus, not required): experience with in-person payment hardware and software, such as card readers and firmware.
  • Preferred (a bonus, not required): deep understanding of the payments industry.
