Description

The company raised a $15M Series A led by Accel and now has more than $20M in total funding. Growth is accelerating quickly, and the team is hiring an engineering manager who still enjoys hands-on building.

You will manage a group of full-stack engineers building AI and agent products while also writing code yourself.

The company applies AI to construction, a $12T global industry that runs on financial software 20 to 50 years old. Much of that software is on-premise, with no APIs and little documentation.

Over four years the team built its own connectors that read from and write to these systems. Its AI agents run on those connectors and take over back-office work contractors still do by hand: invoice matching, expenses, compliance, billing, and financial reporting. Contractors keep the systems they already use, and the agents work across them.

More than 550 contractors use the platform, including teams building hyperscaler data centers, mass transit systems, and other critical infrastructure. Accel and Y Combinator back the company, and both reinvested in the Series A. Executives from Procore, Autodesk, PlanGrid, and Plaid are also among its backers.

The AI products are the fastest-growing part of the business, and a third of new deals now include one. The company signed 8 new channel partnerships in the last month.

The founders have worked together for more than 10 years, first at a startup Amazon acquired, then at Amazon, and now here. Most of the team moved to San Francisco from Canada, SoCal, Texas, and Virginia to build the company from the ground up.

Interview process: each stage ends with a decision within 24 hours, and you will hear back shortly after. The intro is a 20-minute informal chat about the role and your past projects, where you should explain your work clearly and can ask anything. The customer problem round lasts 50 minutes and asks you to design a feature for a real application component, clarifying requirements and refining the design as you learn more. The coaching round is a 50-minute roleplay with a team member about a realistic situation with an engineer on your team. The onsite is in person in San Francisco, with five 1-hour one-on-one interviews with the co-founders and engineering managers. Each interview has 45 minutes of their questions and 15 minutes for yours. The company pays for the trip.

Responsibilities

  • Spend 50-60% of your time writing code and tackling the hardest technical problems on your team.
  • Manage a team of 4-6 engineers through 1:1s, feedback, performance reviews, and career growth.
  • Own delivery for your team's area: scope the work, sequence it, and ship what the company has committed to customers.
  • Raise the technical bar through design reviews, code reviews, and pairing.
  • Help interview and onboard new engineers as the team grows.
  • Build agents that read, reconcile, and act on construction financial data inside legacy systems. Work on grounding, keeping the agent accurate against a customer's real numbers, evaluating quality when the right answer sits in an old ERP, designing tools over internal APIs, and deciding which steps should be deterministic and which should go to a model.
  • Help design one standard across dozens to hundreds of fragmented systems, covering data objects, data models, authentication, account linking, filters, and pagination. Every new feature must be generic across all supported and planned systems.
  • Connect SQL-based, DLL-based, and API-based on-premise systems, many built 20-40 years ago, so customers can use them securely and reliably as if they were modern cloud products. Add real-time updates and webhooks, such as WebSockets, where the systems lack them.
  • Serve millions of API requests a day, a volume that grows daily. Store and retrieve large datasets efficiently and build caching layers that reduce latency. Ship code daily and iterate based on feedback from paying customers.

Requirements

  • 4+ years as a back-end or full-stack engineer, including 1+ years managing or leading engineers as a manager or as a tech lead with mentoring duties.
  • You are a strong engineer who wants to keep coding. You have designed and built production systems yourself, with real experience in cloud infrastructure such as AWS and in distributed systems.
  • You have debugged difficult production problems end to end, including database performance, memory, concurrency, and third-party API failures.
  • You have led projects with other engineers, scoping the work, splitting it across the team, and delivering it.
  • You have mentored engineers and given direct feedback, including hard conversations.
  • You can explain tradeoffs to founders and customers, not only to engineers.
  • You are self-motivated, take high ownership, and have low ego. You enjoy a fast-paced, intense, fun team and want to help build a world-class engineering culture.
  • Prior experience with the tech stack or with construction is not required.
  • Candidates in the Bay Area must be ready to work in person in San Francisco 5 days a week. The role is remote optional for candidates outside the Bay Area.

Conditions

Competitive equity, so you share in the upside you help create.

Annual performance bonus when company growth goals are met. For 2026 the bonus is 15% of your base salary or OTE. The company has paid these bonuses for the last 3 years and expects to continue.

401(k) with a 100% match on your contributions, up to 4% of your annual salary.

Healthcare: the company covers 90% of your costs across several plan options, plus a substantial share of dependent costs.

HSA with a $100 monthly company contribution.

Up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave for all new parents, including adoptive and foster parents.

Relocation: a sizable bonus for moving to the Bay Area, plus an extra bonus for anyone who moves within a 15-minute walk of the office, including current Bay Area residents.

Pre-tax commuter contributions, and the full cost of a Muni pass if you take public transit.

Company-paid trips to the San Francisco HQ at least every other month. Remote team members have trips scheduled during remote visit weeks so they can spend time with the team.

Visa sponsorship, such as H1B and TN, for candidates who are a good fit.

The office is at 101 New Montgomery Street in San Francisco, near Salesforce Park, coffee shops, restaurants, and downtown. The team has worked in person since day one and will keep an in-person culture in San Francisco for Bay Area candidates.

Benefits

  • Early-stage upside with less risk than most startups. Thousands of contractors already use the product, and the company has moved past questions about product fit, market validation, and revenue.
  • High impact, direct work with customers, and technical problems you will not find at larger companies.
  • A market with little direct competition. Construction is the world's third-largest industry, and most people in startups have not noticed it. The company has a multi-year head start.
  • Food: breakfast and dinner stipends through DoorDash, plus a kitchen stocked with coffee, snacks, and drinks.
  • On-site gym with Peloton, a squat rack, Tempo, a yoga setup, and more.
