Engineering Manager

Description

The company builds software that helps local governments modernize their services. The team is its core product engineering group.

You will lead that team, combining people management, technical direction, and hands-on work on design and code.

Responsibilities

• Mentor and grow a team of 3 to 7 software engineers.
• Work with product and other cross-functional teams to set and deliver the technical roadmap for core products.
• Spend roughly 20 to 30 percent of your time writing and reviewing code and shaping architecture.
• Make architecture decisions that keep systems scalable, fast, and easy to maintain.
• Encourage good habits in code quality, testing, documentation, and ownership.

Requirements

• You have 7 to 15 years of full-stack software engineering experience, including at least 1 year as a people manager or team lead.
• You are a strong individual contributor who can manage people and stay hands-on with technical design and code.
• You are proficient in React, TypeScript, Python, and either Kotlin or Go.
• You have worked with AWS, Docker, Terraform, and CI/CD.
• You have experience at early-stage startups and building customer-facing products, including outside large, heavily funded tech companies.
• You can work US time zones and travel to customers about 10 percent of the time.
• Also relevant: familiarity with Java and PostgreSQL.
• Valued: experience bringing AI tools into engineering workflows.

Conditions

Base salary of $165,000 to $205,000 USD per year.
