Description

The company is a sports technology business serving more than 1,700 sports federations, media outlets, betting operators, and consumer platforms in 120 countries.

The Sports Media Team builds platforms that collect, curate, distribute, analyze, and personalize sports data and content. It holds exclusive data rights with leagues including MLB, NBA, NHL, and NASCAR, and the company says its live game data is the fastest and most accurate on the market.

The company's APIs power products from Apple, Google, Amazon, and thousands of other customers. Its Analytics Products and Broadcast Solutions supply the stats and storylines that millions of fans see during events such as the World Series, the Super Bowl, and every game in between.

The team builds enterprise-grade, high-uptime sports analytics and broadcast tooling. This is a role that combines managing people with staying close to the code and architecture.

The hiring process has four steps: a screening conversation with Talent Acquisition, a hiring manager interview covering the role and leadership expectations, technical and leadership interviews with key stakeholders and engineering leaders, and a final discussion of mutual expectations and next steps.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of software engineers through regular 1:1s, team retrospectives, and clear performance feedback, and invest in each engineer's career growth.
  • Set expectations, agree on documented goals, run performance reviews, and link each engineer's career aims to team and product backlogs.
  • Coach engineers at every level, supporting their technical and professional development.
  • Build a culture of collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement, and encourage engineers to solve problems creatively without lowering standards for quality, reliability, and uptime.
  • Give hands-on direction on the team's systems, guiding decisions on system design, data modeling, and service boundaries.
  • Identify systemic risks, prioritize technical debt reduction, and weigh that work against feature delivery.
  • Take a real part in design reviews, merge request reviews, and technical discussions.
  • Champion practices for reliability, observability, security, performance, agentic development, and long-term maintainability.
  • Make sure systems meet the uptime and data accuracy standards that enterprise customers expect.
  • Lead post-mortems and see that the actions they produce are completed.
  • Use agentic development tools to speed up delivery while keeping quality, readability, and architectural consistency high.
  • Work closely with Product to turn business goals into well-scoped, well-sequenced engineering initiatives.
  • Set up and maintain delivery swim lanes so engineers have clear priorities and focused work.
  • Own the team's delivery commitments, forecast accurately, flag risks early, and ship high-quality software.
  • Balance feature work, platform investment, and technical debt, and make those trade-offs open and easy to defend.
  • Take part in cross-functional planning with Product, Design, DevOps, and Architecture to agree on alignment and clear ownership boundaries.

Requirements

  • Engineering management experience of 3+ years, including direct line management of software engineers.
  • A record of growing engineers through coaching, performance management, and career development.
  • Experience working with Product Managers on backlogs, sprint planning, and delivering commitments in an Agile setting.
  • Willingness to hold performance conversations directly and constructively.
  • Software engineering experience of 6+ years, with enough hands-on depth to judge architecture and code quality.
  • Experience designing and running data-driven, high-uptime production systems, including microservices, RESTful APIs, and event-driven architectures.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with high-throughput, low-latency production systems, plus a solid grasp of CI/CD, development workflows, and AWS cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience with sports data or real-time data products.
  • Experience in enterprise SaaS, with an understanding of uptime, data accuracy, and SLA commitments for customer-facing products.
  • Experience with serverless technologies such as AWS Lambda, SQS, and Step Functions.

Conditions

Base pay falls within a range set according to job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, qualifications, and location.

Base pay is one part of total rewards. All benefits are subject to eligibility requirements, and the recruiter can explain the details.

Benefits

  • A comprehensive benefits package, a performance bonus program, an equity stock purchase option, and a 401k contribution.
  • The chance to lead and grow a team that builds products used by some of the best-known sports, media, and technology organizations.
  • Work in a collaborative international setting with colleagues across several regions and disciplines, with real influence over technical strategy and team development.
  • Exposure to large-scale, real-time sports data systems that reach millions of fans around the world.
  • Career growth within a global company working where sports, media, and technology meet, in a culture that values innovation, teamwork, continuous learning, and high performance.
