Description

The company was founded in 2022 on the view that the time needed to produce useful output would limit how much the most capable AI systems can achieve, so it set out to redesign the hardware those models run on.

It builds chips and systems that generate output at thousands of tokens per second while handling large models at very long context lengths.

Progress in fields such as drug discovery, software engineering and materials discovery depends on deep reasoning, and inference speed is currently what limits it.

The company has raised $220M from investors including Founders Fund and Accel.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead a team of 10+ engineers developing the compiler stack for the company's new AI acceleration hardware.
  • Stay hands-on technically while shaping the compiler's architecture from first principles.
  • Make the compiler a key factor in reaching industry-leading LLM inference performance on the company's accelerators.
  • Work closely with hardware, driver, runtime and ML engineers across the stack.
  • Hire, grow and retain strong engineers.

Requirements

  • A track record of leading a high-performance development team and consistently delivering excellent results.
  • Proven experience developing compilers.
  • Current knowledge of machine learning techniques and technologies.
  • A solid understanding of computer architecture and performance optimisation techniques.
  • Excellent C/C++ skills and solid experience with industry standard development tools and technologies.
  • A creative, innovative mindset, and a willingness to take ownership and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Significant advantage: experience with machine learning compilers and with industry standard technologies such as MLIR or TVM.

Conditions

The hardware is still being defined, so architectural decisions are made against a specification first, then a simulator, then early silicon. You will help define the IR design, lowering strategy and execution model before running anything on real hardware.

You need comfort with ambiguity and the ability to make sound decisions with incomplete information.

Boundaries between teams are intentionally flexible, so you need enough understanding of the layers above and below yours to decide well at the boundary and to help your team do the same.

Applicants from every background are welcome, including those whose career path has not been linear.

The work involves technologies subject to UK, US and other international export control regulations. Some roles may require additional eligibility checks, and the company will be open about this throughout hiring.

Benefits

  • A competitive salary reflecting your experience and the specialist nature of the role.
  • Meaningful equity.
  • Private medical, dental and vision cover, a contributory pension, and life and critical illness insurance.
  • 25 days of holiday plus bank holidays.
