This posting is for an existing opening that is still accepting applications.
Artificial Intelligence is used as part of the hiring process for this role.
This is a hybrid role: you are expected to be in the office at least three days per week.
The company's Data Engineering group is building a unified Vehicle Data Platform that moves data and configuration between vehicle ECUs and the cloud. The team ships software on every compute module the company has, as libraries, apps, and services on Android, Linux, and QNX. The work covers four areas: a control plane that pulls configuration from the cloud and applies it across vehicle ECUs; a data plane that collects, processes, and forwards vehicle data to cloud storage; an SDK that application teams use to build on the platform; and unified logging across the vehicle software stack.
Responsibilities
Set the technical direction for the control plane (configuration, arbitration, lifecycle) and the data plane (streaming and file-based transfer), including how they fit together.
Guide the direction for managing thousands of vehicles from one control plane, covering configuration distribution, version management, device identity, and remote diagnostics.
Design the unified logging infrastructure for the whole vehicle software stack.
Define the SDK architecture, API design, versioning, and how application teams adopt it.
Decide how the team delivers its software on Android, Linux, and QNX across every company compute module.
Design, build, and maintain on-vehicle software in these areas, staying hands-on through design reviews, code reviews, and prototypes.
Improve data egress and configuration delivery over unreliable connections, how quickly new configuration converges, and the CPU and memory footprint on the target ECU.
Connect to cloud services including Azure, AWS S3, and Firestore for configuration delivery, device state reporting, and data egress.
Set standards for reliability, performance, data privacy, and resource use on production ECUs.
Define health metrics and observability for production software, and lead incident response, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
Lead cross-organization work with application, platform, cloud, cybersecurity, privacy, and DevOps teams to drive integration, alignment, and adoption.
Work with product stakeholders to shape the SDK roadmap around application team needs and fleet data requirements.
Report status, risks, and tradeoffs to leadership and partner teams.
Contribute to open source projects by filing issues, improving documentation, and submitting patches.
Mentor senior and junior engineers, grow the team, and spread good practices across the software community.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
6+ years of hands-on development in C, C++, or related languages.
Experience building software for Linux, Android, and QNX.
Understanding of distributed systems, configuration management, and large-scale data pipelines.
Experience designing, building, or running a control plane, fleet management system, or similar large-scale distributed coordination service.
Experience designing logging or telemetry software that gives operational visibility at fleet scale.
Experience delivering SDKs or libraries used by other engineering teams, including API design, versioning, and adoption support.
Understanding of network communication and security protocols, including mTLS and certificate-based device identity.
Familiarity with AUTOSAR standards.
Experience leading work across organizations.
Strong skill in software development and optimization.
Experience troubleshooting production issues.
Strong technical writing and design documentation skills, including presenting status, risks, and tradeoffs to leadership.
Has shipped software to production and supported it in the field.
Preferred, not required: familiarity with vehicle communication protocols (UDS, CAN, SOME/IP, XCP).
Preferred, not required: familiarity with AWS, GCP, or Azure and their device management services (IoT Hub, IoT Core, Pub/Sub, or equivalent).
Preferred, not required: familiarity with OpenTelemetry, protobuf, and gRPC.
Preferred, not required: experience building fleet management, OTA, or remote configuration systems, or contributing to Fluent Bit or other data-intensive open source projects.
Preferred, not required: experience with Firestore.
Preferred, not required: knowledge of security best practices for device provisioning, configuration delivery, and cloud-to-device authentication.
Preferred, not required: experience designing driver- or HMI-initiated capture flows, such as create and upload data.
